2027 BMW iX3 - Overview
Jump Links
BMW's 2027 iX3 marks a pivotal step in the brand's electric journey, moving from an electrified version of the X3 into a fully re-engineered SUV built in the Neue Klasse platform. This architecture was designed specifically for efficiency and scalability, allowing BMW to deliver greater range and performance while reducing production costs. The headline figures are impressive: the iX3 produces 463 horsepower and 476 lb-ft of torque, giving it the muscle to compete in the crowded luxury EV segment. With an estimated EPA range of up to 400 miles (approximately 644 km), it positions itself as one of the most capable electric SUVs available. Its two most direct rivals are the Mercedes EQE SUV and the Audi Q8 e-tron. Mercedes leans into comfort and refinement, while Audi emphasizes technology and quattro confidence. Where the iX3 quietly pushes ahead is in its overall coherence. It feels like a single, unified product rather than a collection of individual systems.

New For 2027
The 2027 BMW iX3 is a completely new vehicle from the ground up, marking the start of BMW's Neue Klasse era rather than an evolution of the previous model. It no longer shares its foundation with the combustion X3, instead sitting on a dedicated 800V electric platform designed specifically for next-generation EV performance.
2027 BMW iX3 Price: Which One to Buy
According to BMW, the 2027 iX3 will start at an MSRP of $60,000 in the USA for the iX3 50 xDrive, positioning it competitively against other premium electric SUVs. BMW has also confirmed that additional single and dual motor variants will be available in early 2027, expanding the range and giving buyers more choice. Until those versions debut, the 50 xDrive remains the flagship, but only once the full lineup is available will it become clear which model would be best to buy.

Interior And Features
An all-new vehicle deserves a fresh interior, and the iX3 gets a full revamp inside the cabin. This is the next generation of BMW interior design, so for better or worse, you'd better get used to the company's vehicles looking like this.
- Jared Rosenholtz, Senior Road Tester, CarBuzz
Inside, the change in direction is obvious. The cabin feels more sculpted and deliberate, with a floating dashboard that stretches into the doors to create a wide, open layout. Physical buttons are kept to a minimum, mostly limited to the steering wheel and a few essential controls, which gives the interior a very stripped-back, almost concept-car feel. The steering wheel is smaller than usual with a square design, adding to the modern look. Up front, the seats are fully electric with multi-way adjustment, including lumbar support, while higher trims bring added comfort features. Air vents are subtly built into the dashboard rather than standing out, reinforcing the seamless design. Ambient lighting plays a big role, glowing through the dash and door panels, instead of just sitting in thin strips, and an available panoramic glass roof brings in plenty of light.
Space
In terms of interior space, the new BMW iX3 is expected to stay close to what you'd expect from the X3 footprint, but making better use of it. BMW has not yet released official interior dimension figures for the 2027 model. At this stage, the company has focused on announcing the vehicle's platform, performance, range and trim details, while interior specifications like passenger space are expected to be confirmed closer to its market launch in 2027. It is believed that the longer wheelbase helps open things up slightly, making it feel less tight than before, especially in the second row.
Cargo
Just like the interior dimensions, BMW has not released official measurements for the cargo areas yet, but by the looks of things, the 2027 BMW iX3 leans heavily into usable, well-shaped space. The rear load area appears wide and flat with a low loading lip, making it easy to work with day to day, and for packing long or bulky objects, the seats fold down individually for a 40/20/40 split, while the automatic tailgate adds convenience. Up front, there is a frunk, though it's clearly designed more for smaller items like charging cables, than luggage. Inside, storage is thoughtfully integrated. You get deep door bins, a floating center console with open space underneath and a few neatly placed cubbies for everyday use. There are also hidden compartments, including covered storage in the armrest and tucked-away sections beneath the console, helping keep things out of sight without losing practicality.

Materials And Colors
As much as BMW has not given us the complete interior catalog yet, from what's been outlined and what we've experienced, we do know the iX3 is taking a very material-driven approach. Faux leather upholstery is standard, but genuine cowhide remains available for those who want a traditional finish. The cabin is offered in black, white or castanea (chestnut) vaganza, BMW's leather alternative, which sets the tone for a more sustainable baseline. For buyers looking for a step-up, individual merino leather is available (only in black) while the M PerformTex combination adds a sportier, textured feel. These materials aren't limited to the seats, they extend across the dash, door panels and center console, creating a cohesive environment. Beyond the seats, the dash and door panels carry matching upholstery, accented by open-pore wood, brushed aluminum, or high-gloss trim. Air vents are framed in satin metallic, door handles in brushed aluminum, and pedals in stainless steel, all tied together with customizable ambient lighting.
Features And Infotainment
The 2027 iX3 is the first to run BMW Operating System X with Panoramic iDrive, and instead of relying on one dominant screen, it spreads the experience across four key touchpoints: a 17.9-inch central display, a slim panoramic vision strip at the base of the windshield, an available 3D head-up display and the multifunction steering wheel. BMW offers a standard sound system, but you can also opt for a 13-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are fully integrated, and voice commands are built in, so you're not forced to rely on touch for everything. Most functions still sit within the system, but BMW keeps physical stalks and a few real buttons where they matter.

Performance
CarBuzz had a chance to drive the iX3 on the Ascari Circuit in Spain, where the iX3 launched to 60 mph in just 4.53 seconds.
- Jared Rosenholtz, Senior Road Tester, CarBuzz
The 2027 iX3 will be offered in a single version, the 50 xDrive, powered by a dual-motor setup producing 463 horsepower and 476 lb-ft of torque. That's enough for a claimed 0–60 mph time of 4.7 seconds and a top speed of 130 mph, although our tests showed this is achievable in just a smidge over 4.5 seconds. There aren't multiple powertrains or trims to choose from yet, just one setup that defines the range from the outset, with more variants expected to follow later.
Test Drive Feedback
On the road, the iX3 50 feels strong off the line, with a punchy initial surge that eases off as speeds build. But what stood out far more during our drive was how it slows down. The regenerative braking system is the most seamless we've experienced in any EV, to the point where it brings the car to a stop in most everyday situations without needing the physical brakes, and it does so with a level of smoothness that feels almost invisible in operation.
The iX3 50 feels punchy off the line, though the acceleration trails off significantly as the vehicle reaches higher speeds. It's more than adequate for an average driver, but speed freaks will want to wait for an M-badged iX3.
- Jared Rosenholtz, Senior Road Tester, CarBuzz
From our experience, the iX3's ride on 21-inch wheels can feel a bit unsettled over rough surfaces, although it regains composure quickly and lacks adaptive dampers to smooth things out. On track at Ascari, it still impressed for a standard model, remaining composed overall with only mild understeer and a slight dead spot around center when driven harder.

Safety
The new iX3 builds its safety approach around driver assistance systems and integrated displays, using tech that quietly supports awareness and helps keep the driver informed without getting in the way.
The 2027 BMW iX3 has not yet been tested by the NHTSA or IIHS for crashworthiness, but buyers can expect a strong focus on safety through its standard Driving Assistant Plus Package, which supports steering, braking and lane positioning as well as available features like Parking Assistant Plus and Parking Assistant Professional for added convenience. Enhanced autonomous driving function, augmented reality integration in the head-up display, and BMW's new Panoramic Vision system further expands the SUV's safety profile, offering drivers a modern blend of accident prevention and situational awareness.

Reliability
There are currently no recalls reported for the 2027 BMW iX3, as the vehicle is still new and has not been evaluated by the NHTSA in any kind of way. Buyers, however, can expect BMW's standard warranty coverage that mirrors its other electric models. This includes a four-year or 50,000-mile limited warranty, matched by the powertrain coverage, and a more extensive eight-year or 100,000-mile warranty for electric components. Additionally, BMW provides a three-year or 36,000-mile complimentary maintenance plan, which helps ensure the vehicle's peak condition while reducing ownership costs.
BMW X3 Generations: Everything You Need To Know In One Place
One of BMWs most popular models has evolved quite a bit over its three-generation lifespan.
Recall information is accurate at the time of writing; however, recalls may occur in the years after production, in which case, it may not be reflected here. Current recalls are listed on the NHTSA website.
Design
The 2027 iX3 introduces the brand's Neue Klasse design language in full, and it's less about adding detail and more about stripping things back to the essentials. Neue Klasse itself is BMW's clean-sheet rethink of design and engineering, a new EV platform, new proportions and a new visual identity that will carry over to models like the upcoming BMW i3. You can see that shared language immediately. Up front, the traditional BMW face is still there, but reworked: a smaller, vertically oriented kidney grille with illuminated elements replaces the oversized designs of the past, sitting between slim, angular headlights that reinterpret the classic "four-eye" look using vertical LED signatures instead of round units. The surfaces are where the real change happens. BMW calls it "reduced", which basically means fewer lines and larger, smoother panels that make the car look like it's been carved from a single piece. The side profile keeps familiar X3-like proportions, but with a longer wheelbase, a slightly sloping roofline, flush door handles and a tighter glasshouse that gives it a more planted stance. At the rear, the taillights are stretched wide and pushed toward the center, with a new horizontal light signature and a pronounced L-shape that emphasizes width. The bumpers follow the same theme as the rest of the car. Wheel designs lean toward larger, more aerodynamic styles, typically around the 20–21-inch mark, tying into overall efficiency focus.
Verdict: Is The 2027 BMW iX3 A Good SUV?
The verdict on the iX3 isn't final just yet, with more details still to come, and its arrival set for mid-2026 in the USA. Additional trims are expected, but based on what's been revealed so far, it already looks like a strong start for BMW's Neue Klasse lineup. It combines a more focused design approach with a new-generation EV platform, solid range estimates, and a well-integrated set of driver-assistance features. There are still gaps (full efficiency data and crash ratings haven't been confirmed) but early signs point to an SUV that should hold its own when it lands.
