Addition of Co 2 (Co) 9 and Ru 3 (CO) 12 on preformed monodisperse iron(0) nanoparticles (Fe(0) N... more Addition of Co 2 (Co) 9 and Ru 3 (CO) 12 on preformed monodisperse iron(0) nanoparticles (Fe(0) NPs) at 150°C under H 2 leads respectively to monodisperse core-shell Fe@FeCo NPs and to a thin discontinuous Ru(0) layer supported on the initial Fe(0) NPs. The new complex NPs were studied by state-of-the-art transmission electron microscopy techniques as well as X-ray diffraction, Mössbauer spectroscopy and magnetic measurements. These particles display large heating powers (SAR) when placed in an alternating magnetic field. The combination of magnetic and surface catalytic properties of these novel objects were used to demonstrate a new concept: the possibility of performing Fischer-Tropsch Syntheses by heating the catalytic nanoparticles with an external alternating magnetic field.

The synthesis and characterization of a series of five new diaminodithiophosphoric acid esters (R... more The synthesis and characterization of a series of five new diaminodithiophosphoric acid esters (RRN)2P(S)SR and five new aminotrithiophosphoric acid esters (RRN)P(S)(SR)2 are described. The structure of two of these compounds, the diaminodithio derivative (iPr2N)2P(S)SCH2Ph and the aminotrithio derivative (iPr2N)P(S)(SCH2Ph)2, has been determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. These series of compounds are potentially usable as agents for reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer polymerization.

ABSTRACT We present in this paper a new strategy to transcribe the supramolecular dynamic self-or... more ABSTRACT We present in this paper a new strategy to transcribe the supramolecular dynamic self-organization of the G-quadruplex and ureidocrown ether ion channel-type columnar architectures in constitutional hybrids. In particular, the use of a “dynamic reversible hydrophobic interface” can render the emerging hybrid mesophases self-adaptive. The reversible hydrophobic interactions allow both supramolecular and inorganic silica components to mutually (synergistically) adapt their spatial constitution during simultaneous (collective) formation of micrometric self-organized hybrid domains. More generally, applying such consideration to materials, leads to the definition of constitutional hybrid materials, in which organic (supramolecular)/inorganic domains are reversibly connected. This might provide new insights into the features that control the design of functional materials.

This process based on the decomposition of Fe(CO) 5 on Fe(0) seeds allows the control of the amount of carbon diffused and therefore the tuning of nanoparticles magnetic anisotropy. This results in unprecedented hyperthermia properties at moderate magnetic fields, in the range of medical treatments.

Large specific absorption rates in the magnetic hyperthermia properties of metallic iron nanocubes

We report the magnetic hyperthermia properties of chemically synthesized ferromagnetic 11 and 16 ... more We report the magnetic hyperthermia properties of chemically synthesized ferromagnetic 11 and 16 nm Fe nanocubes displaying the saturation magnetization of bulk iron. The specific absorption rate measured on 16 nm nanocubes is 1690±160 W/g at 300 kHz and 66 mT. The influence of magnetic interactions on their magnetic properties and on their efficiency for hyperthermia is discussed. Based on the Stoner-Wohlfarth model, conditions on their diameter and on their coating are derived to further increase their efficiency.

Optimal Size of Nanoparticles for Magnetic Hyperthermia: A Combined Theoretical and Experimental Study

Progresses in the prediction and optimization of the heating of magnetic nanoparticles in an alte... more Progresses in the prediction and optimization of the heating of magnetic nanoparticles in an alternative magnetic field are highly desirable for their application in magnetic hyperthermia. Here a model system consisting of metallic iron nanoparticles with a size ranging from 5.5 to 28 nm is extensively studied. Different regimes as a function of the nanoparticles size are evidenced: single-domain superparamagnetic, single-domain ferromagnetic and multi-domain. Ferromagnetic single-domain nanoparticles are the best candidates and display the highest specific losses reported in the literature so far (11.2±1 mJ g-1). Measurements are analysed using state-of-the-art analytical formula and numerical simulations of hysteresis loops. Several features expected theoretically are observed for the first time experimentally: i) the correlation between the nanoparticle diameter and their coercive field ii) the correlation between the amplitude of the coercive field and the losses iii) the variation of the optimal size with the amplitude the magnetic field. None of these features are predicted by the linear response theory-generally used to interpret hyperthermia experiments-but are a natural Submitted to 2 2 consequence of theories deriving from the Stoner-Wohlfarth model; they also appear clearly in numerical simulations. These results open the path to a more accurate description, prediction and analysis of magnetic hyperthermia.
