Özet:
Netflix özellikle son yıllarda popülaritesi artan, çok kültürlü film ve çevirilerini bünyesinde barındırarak uluslararası bir dijital medya platformu haline gelmiştir. Seminerde Netflix platformunda yer alan programların yabancı dil öğrenme ve bu dili geliştirme konusunda destekleyici olup olmadığı konusu ele alınacaktır. Netflix kullanıcısı olan ve İngilizce-Türkçe dil çiftinde çeviri eğitimi alan 150 öğrenciye uygulanan anket çalışmasından hareketle elde edilen verilerin tahlilleri ve araştırmanın sonuçları sunulacaktır. Ayrıca, yabancı dil öğreniminde ve geliştirmede Netflix’in tek başına kullanılmasına ek olarak Netflix’e entegre bir şekilde kullanılabilen çeviri ve dil alıştırmaları yapma imkânı sağlayan programlar hakkında da bilgilendirme ve değerlendirmelerde bulunulmuştur.
Decisions on Literary Translation: Comparative Analysis of Translations of “Persuasion”, 2020
Abstract: World literature has a non-ignorable influence on Turkish literature in virtue of the c... more Abstract: World literature has a non-ignorable influence on Turkish literature in virtue of the certain intercountry relations of Turkey. Particularly, the geopolitical position, military, educational, health, commercial and many other relations with the other countries require translations of the text. During this translation processes, the decisions of the translators about word preferences have importance. The aim of this study is to indicate how two independent translations of a novel differ in certain perspectives. Do the translators translate or rewrite a complete text? It is questioned in this study from which perspectives the translators contribute to the source texts or what they remove from the texts while they are preparing the target texts. For the analysing of the sample text, Persuasion by Jane Austen from English Literature is preferred. The different translations of Persuasion are analysed under the framework of norms of Gideon Toury, principles of Roman Jakobson and rewriting principles of Andre Lefevere about literary translation. Wrong usages, deletions, additional words or sentences are seen in these translated books. In this study, with the examples from the translations of the book are presented and compared based on the choices of the translators and the principles stated above.

Günlük hayatımız içerisinde medyanın, özellikle de dijital medyanın yeri ve öneminin oldukç... more Günlük hayatımız içerisinde medyanın, özellikle de dijital medyanın yeri ve öneminin oldukça fazla olduğu ve her geçen gün de büyük bir hızla arttığı görülmektedir. İletişim ve bilgi aktarımı ve daha birçok amaçla kullanılan kitle iletişim araçlarının tümünün medya kavramıyla ilişkilendirmek mümkündür. Günümüzde radyo, televizyon yayınlarının yanı sıra internet aracılığı ile kullanılan ve kullanıcı nüfusunun milyonlarca kişiye ulaştığı görülen sosyal medya mecralarında, farklı pek çok alanda olduğu gibi dil ve çeviri eğitimi amacıyla hazırlanan görsel-işitsel programlar, uygulamalar ve videoların da kullanıldığı gözlemlenmektedir. Bu çalışma kapsamında, dijital medyanın içerisinde yer alan, küresel birçok konu hakkında gönüllü konuşmacılar tarafından hazırlanan ve ticari herhangi bir kaygı gütmeyen bir organizasyon olan TED Konuşmaları arasından seçilen İngilizce video-metin örnekleri incelenmiştir. İngilizce- Türkçe çeviri eğitimi alan öğrencilerle yapılan uygulamalar ve mülakatlar sonucunda, çeviri eğitimi alanında TED Konuşmalarının kullanımlarından ne gibi faydalar sağlanabileceği araştırılmıştır.

In this sense, fundamental principles of Lefevere, the elements of Newmark inspired from Nida, and the norms of Toury are considered in this study. In the light of these principles and theories, the relation between literary texts and ideology of the translator are discussed.
Özet Günümüzde bilim ve teknoloji alanlarındaki hızlı ilerleme, sanayinin yüksek nitelikli ara in... more Özet Günümüzde bilim ve teknoloji alanlarındaki hızlı ilerleme, sanayinin yüksek nitelikli ara insan gücüne olan ihtiyacını artırmıştır. Hizmet ve sanayi kuruluşları kalifiye eleman olarak nitelendirilen çalışanlardan üretim, bilgi ve becerisine ek olarak teknolojinin yakından izlenmesini temel istek olarak bildirmektedirler. İş piyasasındaki bu ihtiyaçlar da mesleki eğitimin önemini artırmıştır. Mesleki eğitimin başlıca amaçlarından biri, endüstrinin ihtiyaç duyduğu nitelikte bireylerin yetiştirilmesidir. Mesleki eğitim, bireyin yeteneklerinin geliştirilmesinde, onun nitelikli iş gücü vasıfları kazanmasında büyük rol oynamaktadır. Dünya örneklerine bakıldığında, mesleki eğitime büyük önemin verildiği ve özellikle Almanya, Avusturya ve İsviçre'de kaliteli mesleki eğitim ve öğretim sunulduğu görülmektedir. Avrupa Birliği ülkelerinden özellikle Almanya'nın " ikili mesleki eğitim modeli " (iş tabanlı mesleki eğitim ve öğretim modeli) ve bu modelin ülkede ilgili eğitimde sağladığı başarı Hindistan, Çin ve Rusya gibi ülkelerin dikkatini çekmiştir. Bu çalışmada, dünya çapında belirli ülkelerdeki mesleki eğitim sistemi incelenmiş ve modern çağın gerekliliklerinden biri olduğu görülmüştür. Hindistan, Pakistan, Kore, İspanya, Yeni Zelanda, Norveç, Finlandiya, Danimarka, Afrika (Gana), ABD ve Türkiye'de uygulanmakta olan mesleki eğitim sistemi incelenmiştir. Bu bağlamda, yetiştirilmekte olan nitelikli bireylerin teorik bilgi kazanmalarının yanı sıra bu teorik ve teknik bilgilerin yorumlanabilmesi, geliştirilerek kullanılabilmesi ve iş hayatı boyunca verimli kişiler olarak çalışabilmeleri için ülke içindeki işletmelerin gerek stajları gerekse eğitim sonunda istihdam olanakları konusunda bu kişilere yardımcı olmaları gerekmektedir. Mesleki eğitime daha fazla önem verilmesi, işgücü piyasası ve mesleki eğitim arasındaki ilişkinin güçlendirilmesi, öğretim programlarının hayat boyu öğrenme yaklaşımı doğrultusunda hazırlanması bu eğitimin verimliliğini artıracaktır.

Öz: Toplumlar üzerinde küresel ölçekte etkisi olan doğal afetler ve pandemiler gibi olaylar, insa... more Öz: Toplumlar üzerinde küresel ölçekte etkisi olan doğal afetler ve pandemiler gibi olaylar, insanların yaşamlarında önemli değişiklikler yaratmakta ve çeşitli zorluklarla başa çıkmayı zorunlu kılmaktadır. Türkiye'nin coğrafi konumu nun doğal afetlere eğilimli olması, bu durumlarla mücadeleyi daha da elzem hale getirmektedir. Bunun yanı sıra, pandemi sürecinde olduğu gibi tam kapanma dönemlerinde, eğitimcilere derslerini internet ve teknoloji aracılığıyla organize etme ve sürdürme görevi düşmektedir. Eğitim alanında teknolojinin hızla benimsenmesi, başlangıçta öğretmenler ve öğrenciler arasında kaygılara yol açmış olsa da süreç içinde bu yeniliklere uyum sağlanmış ve inter aktif derslere katılım artmıştır. Araştırmanın temel amacı, uzaktan eğitim sürecinde ve ardından yüz yüze eğitimde, sözlü çeviri uygulamaları odaklı derslerde dijital bir pano aracı olan Padlet'in kullanılabilirliğini incelemektir. Mevcut araştırma, dijital bir pano olan Padlet'in sözlü çeviri eğitiminde yer alan derslerde ödev takibi, dersin işlenişi ve değerlendirme süreçlerindeki potansiyel kullanımını ele almaktadır. Padlet hem öğrenci hem de eğitimci açısından avantajlara sahiptir. Bu avantajlar arasında akran değerlendirmesi de yer almaktadır. Araştırma yöntemi olarak nitel araştırma yaklaşımı olan betimleyici analiz benimsenmiştir. Araştırmanın teorik altyapısını yapılandırmacı yaklaşım oluşturmaktadır. Sonuç olarak, interaktif öğrenme ortamlarında kullanılan Padletin bir eğitim teknolojisi olarak ilgili derslere entegre edilmesi ve bir ders saati için nasıl kullanılacağı hakkında önerilerde bulunulmuştur.

Son yıllarda popülaritesi ve kullanım alanı artan yapay zeka yazılımlarının çeşitlilik kazanması ... more Son yıllarda popülaritesi ve kullanım alanı artan yapay zeka yazılımlarının çeşitlilik kazanması ve farklı amaçlara hitap eden özelliklerinin geliştirilmesi araştırmalara konu olmaktadır. Farklı meslek gruplarından pek çok kişi tarafından kullanılan yapay zeka yazılımlarında yapılan istem girişleriyle elde edilen yanıtlar değişkenlik göstermektedir. Bu değişkenlikler dakika, saat, konum farkına, istem girişinin yapılışına göre ve kullanılan dilin kibarlık düzeyine göre izlenmektedir. Bu araştırma kapsamında, Türkiye’de yapay zeka ve haber çevirileri hakkında yürütülen lisansüstü tezler ve bilimsel araştırmalar sınıflandırılmış ve ardından yapay zeka yazılımı olan ChatGPT-4o kullanılmış ve bu yazılımın haber metni üretimi istenmiştir. ChatGPT-4o’dan ideolojik bir içerik olarak Filistin ve İsrail arasında yaşanan son olaylar hakkında metin üretmesi ve ardından bu metni Filistin ve İsrail’i destekler nitelikte iki farklı şekilde çevirmesi istenmiştir. Haber metninin Türkçe, çevirilerin ise İngilizce olması istenmiştir. Alınan haber metni ve çevirilerinin ardından, ChatGPT-4o ile röportaj yapılmıştır. Araştırma yöntemi olarak, Türkiye’de yürütülen lisansüstü tezlerin ve bilimsel araştırmaların, ChatGPT-4o çevirilerinin ve ChatGPT-4o ile yapılan röportajın betimsel analiz yöntemiyle incelenmesi hedeflenmiştir. Araştırma kapsamında açık kaynaklı yapay zeka yazılımının ne derece taraflı/tarafsız metin üretimi ve çeviri yapabildiği sorgulanmıştır. Elde edilen veriler neticesinde, ChatGPT-4o’ın doğru veri sağlama, tarafsız metin üretimi, ideolojik çeviri yapma durumları incelenmiş ve genel çıkarımlarda bulunulmuştur. Genel olarak, yapay zeka ile haber metinleri üretmek, kolaylık, hız, zaman ve verimlilik açısından avantajlar sunar. Ayrıca, otomatik içerik oluşturma, kapsamlı verilerin analizi, kişiselleştirilmiş içerik üretimi, dil ve çeviri hizmetleri, yazma ve düzenleme, son düzenleme, araştırma konularına ve kaynaklarına erişim ve kapsam ve dolayısıyla maliyet tasarrufu faydalı olarak görülmektedir.

These technological developments are seen as hardware and/or software in every phase of human life, in every discipline, in which people conduct research, in occupational fields, in health, law and education. What is meant by the technological developments is artificial intelligence products that have been around for a long time and have been heard frequently recently. Due to the great advancements that artificial intelligence has made during recent years, people discuss how the evolution of machine translation impacts the translation profession currently and how it will continue to affect it. As an example of the evolution of artificial intelligence in translation technologies, ChatGPT, which gained popularity recently, is the focus of the present study. This research gives the responses of ChatGPT under the structured interview questions. It aims to get information about the general requirements of preand post-editing processes and the steps to be taken by ChatGPT these tasks. There were six open-ended questions in the interview with ChatGPT. In this research, the interview responses of ChatGPT, an overview of translation technologies and the importance of pre-editing and post-editing during the machine translation processes were mentioned. As a result of this discussion, the inferences were made about the responses received and the general situation of the translation technology, and suggestions were made for future studies.

Uluslararası diplomaside yeni bir kavram olan ve yumuşak güç olarak kullanılan dijital diplomasinin çağın gerekleri doğrultusunda, gelecekte daha yoğun ve etkin bir şekilde kullanılacağını da öngörmek mümkün hale gelmiştir. Uluslararası ilişkilerin, siyasi bağlantıların, dijital platformlarda, sosyal medya kanallarında çeşitli iletiler ve bu iletilerin çevirisi aracılığıyla yürütülmeye başlandığı şu günlerde, dijital diplomasi konulu doktora tezlerinin incelenmesi ve genel bir çıkarım yapılması ihtiyacı duyulmuş ve mevcut araştırmaya konu edilmiştir. Bu araştırmanın amacı, Türkiye’de yazılan dijital diplomasi konulu doktora tezlerinin incelenmesi ve alana sundukları katkıların genel bir değerlendirmesini yapmaktır. Türkiye’de yayınlanan dijital diplomasi konulu doktora tezleri üzerinde dedüktif (tümdengelimli) akıl yürütme yöntemi aracılığıyla betimleyici analiz yapılmıştır. Araştırma soruları şu şekildedir: Dijital diplomasi alanında yazılan tezlerde çevirinin yeri nedir? Çeviri ve dijital diplomasi bağlamında ne gibi araştırmalar yürütmek mümkündür? Bugüne kadar Halkla ilişkiler, uluslararası ilişkiler, gazetecilik ve iletişim bilimleri gibi disiplinlere konu olan dijital diplomasi konusunun Çeviribilim disiplinindeki yeri ve bağlantısı sorgulanmıştır. Bu bağlamda, Çeviribilim alanında yürütülecek olan ileriki çalışmalarda henüz yeni bir araştırma alanı olan ve Çeviribilim alanında boşluk olan dijital diplomasi konusunun irdelenmesi hakkında önerilerde bulunulmaktadır.

A new mechanical function known as post-editing, which helps to correct the imperfections of raw ... more A new mechanical function known as post-editing, which helps to correct the imperfections of raw machine translation output, is introduced in the translation market. While this function is commonly used as an integral part of the machine translation, it can also be used for correcting non-translated texts on its own. The main purpose of this study is to find an answer to the question of which contributions could be made to the competences of translation students by using independent post-editors during academic translation education. A model course application and survey are conducted with the participation of students from translation studies departments. The interrater reliability is used in this study. In accordance with the results, it is found that most of the students have not known the usage of the independent post-editors during the translation process. The research provides new insights into the contributions of post-editor technology to the translation education. The findings of the research also reflect the contributions of post-editor technology to the translation quality in terms of the speed-time management, the accuracy of punctuations, abbreviations, and grammar rules. It is also determined that the post-editors contribute to the competencies of the translation students. As a result, it is suggested that the post-editors may be used as an educational material in translation education. Indeed, the results require other studies about the usage of post-editors as educational materials.

Translation/interpretation advancements will continue going all through human life on the earth contingent upon the necessities. Focusing on technology, it is feasible to consider and plan the future translation gadgets of human existence. The wearable technologies that are widely used in our lives during the 21st century and the translation function integrated into these technology products are the subjects of this research. Under the roof wearable translation technologies, smartwatc hes, smart glasses, smart headsets and smart translator masks, included in human life all around the world during the Covid-19 pandemic, have been examined. Wearable translation developments have been hypothetically connected with transhumanism and futurism and assessed utilizing the deductive reasoning method. Throughout the deductive analysis, the documents and the information given in the websites and the user manuals of the mentioned products are classified, analysed and described. This research strongly asserts designing the human future in the context of futurism and transhumanism, and the possibility of an advantageous technology-oriented life, and the innovations of these advantages in translation technologies. Subsequently, in the light of future-oriented modern innovative research fields such as transhumanism and futurism, the state of wearable translation technologies has been evaluated from a broad perspective. In this concern, suggestions for future researches on this topic are suggested. Certain researches about translation quality of the wearable translation technologies, teaching the wearable translation technologies to university students having translation and interpreting education, and the pros and the con of them for the tourists a nd immigrants can also be searched for further studies.

Netflix, which has been increasing in popularity during recent years and has millions of viewers,... more Netflix, which has been increasing in popularity during recent years and has millions of viewers, is an international platform since it has multicultural films and their translations. Due to the content of TV series, films, documentaries, and various programs on Netflix, it appeals to the young and adult audiences and besides, offers unique options for children. This study aims to argue that the programs on Netflix are supportive, especially in learning and supporting a second foreign language. Second foreign language learning methods and language competence topics constitute the theoretical background. As a general theme, using videos, and movies in learning and developing foreign language is taken as a basis. Within the scope of this research, a questionnaire consisting of 8 questions to analyse the Netflix programs was used and given to a sample of 150 students studying translation in the English-Turkish language pair. These students are Netflix programs' audiences. The data obtained from the questionnaire has been analysed with the descriptive analysis method and a general situation assessment has been received concerning whether Netflix could help improve foreign language competence. As a result of this research, it has been determined that Netflix programs as a video-film category may contribute to the development of the second language. Thus, by using it in a controlled manner, Netflix may contribute to foreign language competence. 2020 yılının başlarında ortaya çıkan COVID-19 salgını tüm dünyayı etkisi altına almış ve hala etkisini sürdürmektedir. Bilindiği üzere, bu etkinin başta sağlık sektöründen siyaset ve askeri alanlara, ticaretten ekonomik gelişmelere, turizmden eğitime pek çok alanda yoğun bir şekilde hissedildiği görülmektedir. Bu araştırma kapsamında, COVID-19 salgınının ardından tüm dünyada ve özellikle Türkiye'de uygulanması önemli bir ihtiyaç olan sosyal izolasyon döneminin eğitim alanındaki etkisi incelenmiştir. Araştırmanın sınırlılığını belirlemek amacıyla, Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit Üniversitesi Çaycuma Meslek Yüksekokulu Uygulamalı İngilizce ve Çevirmenlik Programında öğrenimine devam eden 1. ve 2. sınıf öğrencileriyle bir anket çalışması yapılmıştır. Yapılan anket daha önce geliştirilen bir ölçeğin sorularına bağlı kalınarak yapılmıştır. Araştırmanın amacı, meslek yüksekokulu öğrencilerinin COVID-19 sosyal izolasyon döneminde e-öğrenmeye hazırbulunuşluk düzeylerinin incelenmesidir. Araştırmanın literatür taraması özellikle teknoloji, uzaktan eğitim ve e-öğrenmeyle bağlantılı 21. yüzyıl öğrenme modelleri temel alınarak yürütülmüştür. Araştırma yöntemi olarak nicel araştırma yöntemlerinden anket uygulaması yapılmıştır. Anket soruları 6 farklı yönden öğrencilerin e-öğrenmeye hazırbulunuşluklarını ölçmeyi hedeflemektedir. Bunlar, Bilgisayar Öz-Yeterliği, İnternet Öz-Yeterliği, Çevrimiçi İletişim Öz-Yeterliği, Kendi Kendine Öğrenme, Öğrenen Kontrolü ve E-öğrenmeye Yönelik Motivasyon şeklinde sıralanmaktadır. Yürütülen anketten elde edilen veriler SPSS programında değerlendirilmiş ve sonuçları betimleyici analiz yöntemiyle aktarılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda öğrencilerin bahse konu başlıklar altında yer alan maddeleri genel olarak yüksek düzeyde sağladıkları görülmüştür. As it is known, it is seen that this effect is felt intensely in many fields, from health sector to the politics and military fields, from trade to economic developments, and from tourism to education. In this research, the effect of social isolation period, application of which is a fundamental need in education field all over the world, especially in Turkey has been analysed. In order to determine the limitation of the research, a survey study was carried out with 1st and 2nd grade students who continue their education in Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University Çaycuma Vocational School Applied English and Translation Program. The questionnaire was conducted based on the questions of a previously developed scale. The aim of the study is to examine the levels of readiness of e-learning of vocational high school students during the COVID-19 social isolation period. In the broadest sense, the philosophy is described as the scientific search for existence and kno... more In the broadest sense, the philosophy is described as the scientific search for existence and knowledge. It develops by integrating with the language of a certain culture. When it is viewed from this respect, the translation is known as a device to provide intercultural interaction. However, on the basic level, translation is known as the transmission of the texts in a language with their forms, meanings and styles into a target language and/or culture. These transmission processes are also accepted as a part of the Westernization movement during the Tanzimat Period in the Ottoman Empire. During this period The Ottoman culture began to be involved in a cultural transformation by translating the novels and theatre plays from the Western cultures. In this study, it is aimed to analyse and evaluate the position of translation philosophy especially during the years before the establishment of The Republic of Turkey by comparing with the Western sources. If it is possible to translate the texts more than one form, the ideas of the translators and the interpreters gain importance. Thus, before and during the translation process, the ideal forms of the texts in the target language are thought and discussed in the minds of translators and interpreters, and the theories occur and the philosophical discourses appear.

Çeviribilim, bağımsız bir bilimsel alan olarak kendi varlığını ve müdahil olduğu disiplinler aras... more Çeviribilim, bağımsız bir bilimsel alan olarak kendi varlığını ve müdahil olduğu disiplinler arası çalışma alanlarının varlığını kanıtlamıştır. Geniş bir disiplinler arası çalışma alanına sahip olan çeviribilimin sürekli gelişmekte olan bir terminolojiye sahip olması kaçınılmazdır. Bilgisayar destekli çeviri araçları ve editörlük/düzeltmenlik programları arasında uzun yıllardır yerini alan son-biçimleyiciler (post-editor) nöral makine çevirisi programlarına bütünleşik ve/veya bu programlardan bağımsız bir şekilde çalışabilmektedir. Mevcut çalışmada son-biçimleyiciler olarak adlandırılan kavramın Türkçe çeviribilim terminolojisinde yer almadığı, ilgili literatür taramasında terim karşılığı olarak sabit bir kullanımının olmadığı tespit edilmiştir. Bu bağlamda, son-biçimleyiciler için genel olarak makine çevirisi sonrası düzeltme şeklinde açıklama yapıldığı ya da sıklıkla İngilizce karşılığı olan post-edit kelimesinin aynen kullanıldığı görülmüştür. Son-biçimleyiciler sadece makine çevirisi ile bağlantılı olarak düşünülmemelidir. Bu programlar editörlere, yayıncılara, içerik yaratıcılarına, çevirmenlere, öğrencilere, araştırmacıların nitelikli metin üretimine yardımcı olan bir yazılım olduğu için adının son-biçimleyici olarak kullanılması önerilmektedir. Bu çalışma, çeviri pratiği süresince fayda sağlayan ve güncel araştırmalarda çeviri eğitiminde yer almasının gerekliliği savunulan son- biçimleyicilerin Türkçe çeviribilim terminolojisinde terim karşılığı olarak yer alması için yürütülmüş ve son- biçimleme yapmak, son-biçimleme ve son-biçimleyen/son-biçimleyici sözcükleri için terim önerileri verilmiştir. Bu araştırma kapsamında, bir dilde terim üretiminin/türetiminin önemi vurgulanmış ve özellikle çeviribilim alanında sıkça post-editör olarak anılan kavramının Türkçede kullanılan karşılığı için öneride bulunulmuştur.
Abstract: Translation Studies has proven its existence as an independent scientific field and the existence of interdisciplinary fields of study which belong to it. It is inevitable that Translation Studies, which has a wide interdisciplinary field of study, has a constantly developing terminology. Post-editors, which have been among the computer-assisted translation tools and editing programs for many years, can work-integrated and/or independently from neural machine translation programs. In this study, it has been determined that the concept called as post-editor is not included in the Turkish Translation Studies terminology, and does not have a constant usage as a term in the related literature review. In this context, it has been observed that the post- editors are called in general as editing after the machine translation, or the word post-edit, which is often English equivalent, is used exactly. The post-editors should not be considered only in connection with machine translation, it is suggested that the name be used as post-editor, as it is software that helps editors, publishers, content creators, translators, students, researchers in the production of creating the qualified texts. This study has been carried out to include the “son-biçimleyici” in Turkish Translation Studies terminology as a term, which is beneficial during the translation practices and in translation education in current research and the term suggestions for post-editors, post-edit and post-editing words into Turkish are given. Within the scope of the research, the importance of term production/derivation in a language was emphasized and a proposal was made for the Turkish equivalent of the concept, which is frequently referred to as post-editor in translation studies.

In this study, it is aimed to determine the attitudes and situations of the students, who are being trained in academic translation departments, about using digital media and translation technologies. In line with this purpose, it is aimed to develop the "The Attitude Scale for Using of Digital Media Tools of The Students Having Academic Translation Education". The research group of this study consists of 397 students. A questionnaire was applied to the students having translation education in English-Turkish (Prep+2 years) and German-Turkish (Prep+4 years). As for the methodology, the relational screening model was used to determine whether there is a degree of variation between two or more completed variables. 5-Likert type questions were asked by using SPSS 21 program and a survey was applied. As a conclusion, an attitude scale about the using of digital media and translation technologies of the students who have academic translation education in different language pairs (Turkish-English and Turkish-German) and different education periods (Prep+2 years and Prep+4years) has been developed and Translation and Digital Media I-II courses have been proposed.

In this study, it is intended to analyse the satisfactory effects of literary works on readers even if they include the pessimistic themes such as passionate love relations ending up with depression or death. As it is intended to state this contradictory subject matter, certain poems including love and tragedy together are analysed from the Victorian Period in English Literature in this study. However, what kind of feeling is love and the symbols of love from Greek Mythology are analysed. A bridge is instructed between Eros and another Greek Mythology god, Thanatos with the examples of English literature. The contradictory relation between these two points is illustrated in this study. As the theoretical basis, "Jouissance" principle of Jacques Lacan and "Beyond the Pleasure Principle" of Sigmund Freud are studied in this context. Both of these philosophies indicate how passionate loves end up unhappily, especially with death may give satisfaction. To prove the satisfactory relation between love and death, certain 19 th century poems such as "In Memoriam" by Alfred Tennyson, "Porphyria's Lover" and "My Last Duchess" by Robert Browning, "After Death" by Christina Rossetti are analysed in this concern. Indeed, supporting the literature research and examples from English literature, the results of a questionnaire with 100 students prove that poems ending up miserably may have satisfactorily positive effects on their readers. The results are evaluated based on the descriptive analysis method.

In recent studies, it is seen that translation-oriented technology products are used in an expedient way. The commonly used post-editors integrated into machine translation programs, also work independently to edit the texts produced into another language or translated into a foreign language. The main purpose of this study is to find the answer to whether the post-editors contribute to the professional translator competencies or not. On the other hand, the place of the post-editors in academic curriculums of translation-interpreting departments, and the necessity of using these programs during the education are questioned. If there is any contribution of the post-editors, how they could take place into the curriculums of translation-interpreting departments is questioned. In Turkey, as it is seen from certain researches about translation education, it is clear that the students have difficulties while they are translating from their native languages into foreign languages. In this study, the independent post-editors used in English and German are used in a sample course. For this purpose, the research group of this study includes two different groups of students from 50 german Translation Studies Department (Prep+4-year), and 50 Applied English and Translation Program (Prep+2-year). As a result, it is seen that the post-editors contribute to the quality of texts produced into foreign languages and the translators’/interpreters’ professional competencies. In this respect, a course model for academic translation education proposal is suggested.

The programs and software used on the desktops and laptops give their places gradually to the mobile applications designed to be used via smartphones, tablets and similar mobile devices. The main purpose of this study is to evaluate the usage of the mobile applications supportive for language competence of the students of translation studies with the perspective of learning theories. It is aimed to find the answer to the questions of how could the mobile learning theories be explained in relation with translation education, how could the mobile applications are used for translation education and from which perspectives, the mobile applications could contribute to the students' competencies. The mobile learning theories have been developed within the basis of learning theories as it is seen from learning-related studies. In this study, the usage of mobile applications by the students of translation studies is evaluated in the light of learning theories. A yes-no question survey is applied to 100 Applied English and Translation Program students, and the results are evaluated according to the descriptive content analysis. The findings of the research reflect the contributions of mobile applications to the translator/interpreter candidates' competencies in terms of self-regulated education, more enjoyable and competitive environment for learning, and create a more motivating environment to be willing to learn. As a result, it is suggested that mobile applications may be used as educational materials in translation education. Indeed, the results indicate that different studies about the usage of mobile applications as educational materials can be carried out.

Özet:
Netflix özellikle son yıllarda popülaritesi artan, çok kültürlü film ve çevirilerini bünyesinde barındırarak uluslararası bir dijital medya platformu haline gelmiştir. Seminerde Netflix platformunda yer alan programların yabancı dil öğrenme ve bu dili geliştirme konusunda destekleyici olup olmadığı konusu ele alınacaktır. Netflix kullanıcısı olan ve İngilizce-Türkçe dil çiftinde çeviri eğitimi alan 150 öğrenciye uygulanan anket çalışmasından hareketle elde edilen verilerin tahlilleri ve araştırmanın sonuçları sunulacaktır. Ayrıca, yabancı dil öğreniminde ve geliştirmede Netflix’in tek başına kullanılmasına ek olarak Netflix’e entegre bir şekilde kullanılabilen çeviri ve dil alıştırmaları yapma imkânı sağlayan programlar hakkında da bilgilendirme ve değerlendirmelerde bulunulmuştur.

2020 yılının başlarında ortaya çıkan COVID-19 salgını tüm dünyayı etkisi altına almış ve hala etkisini sürdürmektedir. Bilindiği üzere, bu etkinin başta sağlık sektöründen siyaset ve askeri alanlara, ticaretten ekonomik gelişmelere, turizmden eğitime pek çok alanda yoğun bir şekilde hissedildiği görülmektedir. Bu araştırma kapsamında, COVID-19 salgınının ardından tüm dünyada ve özellikle Türkiye'de uygulanması önemli bir ihtiyaç olan sosyal izolasyon döneminin eğitim alanındaki etkisi incelenmiştir. Araştırmanın sınırlılığını belirlemek amacıyla, Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit Üniversitesi Çaycuma Meslek Yüksekokulu Uygulamalı İngilizce ve Çevirmenlik Programında öğrenimine devam eden 1. ve 2. sınıf öğrencileriyle bir anket çalışması yapılmıştır. Yapılan anket daha önce geliştirilen bir ölçeğin sorularına bağlı kalınarak yapılmıştır. Araştırmanın amacı, meslek yüksekokulu öğrencilerinin COVID-19 sosyal izolasyon döneminde e-öğrenmeye hazırbulunuşluk düzeylerinin incelenmesidir. Araştırmanın literatür taraması özellikle teknoloji, uzaktan eğitim ve e-öğrenmeyle bağlantılı 21. yüzyıl öğrenme modelleri temel alınarak yürütülmüştür. Araştırma yöntemi olarak nicel araştırma yöntemlerinden anket uygulaması yapılmıştır. Anket soruları 6 farklı yönden öğrencilerin e-öğrenmeye hazırbulunuşluklarını ölçmeyi hedeflemektedir. Bunlar, Bilgisayar Öz-Yeterliği, İnternet Öz-Yeterliği, Çevrimiçi İletişim Öz-Yeterliği, Kendi Kendine Öğrenme, Öğrenen Kontrolü ve E-öğrenmeye Yönelik Motivasyon şeklinde sıralanmaktadır. Yürütülen anketten elde edilen veriler SPSS programında değerlendirilmiş ve sonuçları betimleyici analiz yöntemiyle aktarılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda öğrencilerin bahse konu başlıklar altında yer alan maddeleri genel olarak yüksek düzeyde sağladıkları görülmüştür. As it is known, it is seen that this effect is felt intensely in many fields, from health sector to the politics and military fields, from trade to economic developments, and from tourism to education. In this research, the effect of social isolation period, application of which is a fundamental need in education field all over the world, especially in Turkey has been analysed. In order to determine the limitation of the research, a survey study was carried out with 1st and 2nd grade students who continue their education in Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University Çaycuma Vocational School Applied English and Translation Program. The questionnaire was conducted based on the questions of a previously developed scale. The aim of the study is to examine the levels of readiness of e-learning of vocational high school students during the COVID-19 social isolation period. The literature review of the research was carried out especially on the basis of 21st century learning models related to technology, distance education and e-learning.
