Marvel Comics is honoring Hispanic and Latin American Heritage Month with White Tiger Reborn #1, a Marvel’s Voices: Comunidades special celebrating the legacy of Marvel’s first Latin superhero. This special one-shot will feature two powerful stories, one from acclaimed writer Daniel José Older and artist Bruno Abdias, and another from Bram Stoker Award-winning author Cynthia Pelayo and artist Moises Hidalgo. Both Abdias and Pelayo make their Marvel Comics debut with this issue.
The comic will delve into never-before-seen moments from the life of the original White Tiger, Hector Ayala, while also pushing current White Tiger Ava Ayala into a bold new chapter. As Ava reforges her bond with the mystical Tiger God, she’s pulled into a dangerous mystery that forces her to confront her past—and come face-to-face with her long-dead brother, Hector.
“This story marks a major turning point in the decades-long saga of the White Tiger,” Older said. “It’s always a deep honor to carry on the legacy that Bill Mantlo and George Pérez began.”
“As a Puerto Rican author, it is an honor to make my Marvel debut with White Tiger,” added Pelayo. “It’s a chance for new and longtime readers to discover the rich legacy of America’s first Latin American superhero.”
To mark the occasion, Marvel is also releasing White Tiger Team-Up Variant Covers across October’s issues of Amazing Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, and Incredible Hulk, all illustrated by J. Gonzo. Each cover features a different White Tiger—Hector, Angela del Toro, or Ava—teaming up with the book’s main hero.
White Tiger Reborn #1 hits comic shops this October, with a main cover by Mike Hawthorne and a variant by rising Marvel cover artist Jhony Caballero. Preorders are now open at your local comic shop.
