Steven Matainaho explained during the second Papua New Guinea Media Summit 2026 that the National Artificial Intelligence (AI) framework was finalised after the AI Impact Summit, where leaders agreed AI should be positioned as an enabler rather than an end in itself.

“You may be aware that we have released, coming back from that AI Impact Summit, it got us to sit in the afternoon seat and actually finalise what is now our AI adoption programme. Immediately, we put that out. One month later, it was out,” he said.
