Simon McLone, 43, appeared before magistrates

  • Since this article was first published in December 2021 the prosecution decided to offer no evidence in the case, which resulted in a verdict of not guilty against Mr McLone.

A teacher has appeared in court to face charges of sexual activity with a girl.

Simon McLone, of Hall Farm Close, Queniborough, appeared at Loughborough Magistrates' Court yesterday morning.

The 43-year-old did not enter pleas to the charges of 'sexual activity with a girl aged 13 to 17' and 'abusing a position of trust'.

Prosecutor Ela Crighton told the court McLone was a school teacher at the time of the alleged offences.

When interviewed by Leicestershire Police, he denied the charges, she said.

The court heard the charge could lead to a jail term of between one and two years in custody.

The court clerk advised the magistrates that although they could deal with the case, its complexity and the number of likely witnesses made it more suitable for a crown court jury.

The magistrates agreed and McLone was released on unconditional bail to appear at Leicester Crown Court on Monday, January 17.
