Correlations between the URICA subscales and various ancillary measures The URICA subscales generally correlated in expected directions with ancillary measures (se Table 1). As expected, higher scores on Precontemplation (i.e., attitudes reflecting problen denial) were significantly associated with reduced help-seeking. Moreover, Precontemplatio1 scores were associated with fewer self-reported symptoms (e.g., significan with BAI, BHS, and significant positive correlations with self-esteem) and negative correlation with less recognitio1 of the negative consequences of worry (i.c., COWS negative). In contrast, and consistent witl theoretical expectations, correlations with the Contemplation subscale (attitudes reflecting activ consideration of change) showed the exact opposite pattern of correla scores on Contemplation were associated with significantly greater help-se ions. That is, highe eking, and higher lev els of self-reported symptoms (i.e., significant positive correlations with BAI, anxiety symptoms BHS, and significant negative correlations with self-esteem). Moreover, scores were also related to significantly greater recognition of higher Contemplatio1 the negative consequences o worry (i.e, COWS negative). A nearly identical pattern of correlations was found with th Maintenance subscale (i.e., attitudes reflecting consolidation of action already taken on th problem). The correlations with the Action subscale were largely inconsistent with theoretica expectations. This subscale correlated poorly with the other measures, although it was related t overall help-seeking behavior. All subscales were unrelated to a socially desirable response set Consistent with this finding, scores on the individual items of each subscale all correlated mor highly with the total subscale score than they did with scores on social desirability.
