In 1999, he joined the Fraunhofer Institute for Telecommunications—Heinrich Hertz Institute (AHI), Berlin, Germany. Since then, he has con- tributed successfully to the standardization activities of the ITU-T Video Coding Experts Group (ITU-T SG16/Q.6—VCEG) and the ISO/IEC Moving Pictures Experts Group (ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 29/WG 11—MPEG). During the development of the Scalable Video Coding (SVC) extension of H.264/AVC, he co-chaired several ad hoc groups of the Joint Video Team of ITU-T VCEG and ISO/IEC MPEG investigating particular aspects of the scalable video coding design. He has also been appointed as a Co-Editor of the SVC Amendment for H.264/AVC.
