Screenshot by Bakioglu. ee ee eee One W-Hat member, Plastic Duck, became legendary for crashing sims although he claims to have rarely set out to do so intentionally. Most of his grief play came from his experiments in programming on a not-so-stable plat- form. Even though his actions did not constitute griefing per se, the name Plastic Duck came to instil fear in the minds of residents as all manner of activity remotely considered as griefing was attributed to him. The mere sight of a plastic duck in-world would at one point generate a flood of abuse reports to the Governance Team, even when no griefing had taken place. Attracted to the drama, some players even went as far as to role-play vigilante groups to offer player-assisted security services. In a way, all Second Life residents contributed to the mythical creation of the Plastic Duck brand. Goons glee- fully played on this fear and perpetuated a distorted image of Plastic Duck whose avatar (unlike what one might assume) in actuality looked more like a robot. One Goon created a costume in the likeness of Daffy Duck wearing the attire of an officer of the Communist Party. Other members of the W-Hat promptly adopted and wore the Daffy attire pretending to be Plastic Duck. The world was soon populated with dozens of avatars wearing Daffy Duck attires decorated with communist insignia (Figure 4) and other variations.
