In Hai River (China) sediment, which is heavily urbanized and hosts many agricultural and industrial activities, all mean HMs (Cu, Zn, Ni, Cd, Pb, and Cr) concentra- tions were found to be higher than upper continental crust values. In particular, Cu (74.23 mg/kg) and Cd (0.264 mg/kg) concentrations were 2.5 and 3 times higher than crust values, respectively (Kang et al. 2020). The concentration of Zn, Cu, Ni, and Cd in the Houjing River (Taiwan) sediment, which suffers from metal-related industrial activities, is higher than levels mentioned in the Taiwan sediment quality guideline (Yeh et al. 2020). HM concentrations in the Ganges River (India) sediments, which is under intense pressure of urban industrial discharges, are considerably higher than those in the present study with the excention of Zn (Siddiaui and Pandev. 2019).
