Galili) This could suggest that the decorative panels on the coffin from Caesarea and the brazier from Tel Ridan were made by the same templates, possibly in the same workshop and by the same craftsmen. The poor, blurred, unclear execution of the round objects stands in contrast to the professional, artistic execution of the other elements on the panel. This may suggest that these additions were pressed into the mould by someone less skilled after the well-made templates were Altogether c.100 lead coffins, most from Israel and a few from Lebanon (Fig. 2) have been listed and described (Rahmani, 1999: 85-117). They were manu- factured of lead sheets produced similarly (not exactly) to the sheets used in manufacturing braziers. After casting the sheets were cut, folded and formed into elongated boxes by soldering the joints. The shallower coffin-covers were made similarly. Most coffins were
