The simulation curves show that, except for the first two days when the interior air temperature and operative temperature (OT) exceed the exterior dry-bulb air temperature for some hours, the interior air and operative temperatures remains lower than dry-bulb temperature of exterior air for the whole week, even though the dry-bulb temperature of exterior air is comparatively higher for later days. The possible reason for this is that the room interior environment is affected by the heat absorption capacity of the active wall that is able to store the coolness of the previous day and absorbs heat load from the interior environment during the night. For active wall, the high mass of the wall contributes in keeping the interior temperature low in the hours when cooling tower is turned off. Summary of the results for a whole-year simulation of both air-conditioning and radiant cooling options are shown in Tables 11 and 12. Energy consumptions of cooling equipment for both office room and classroom are obtained from simulation when air-conditioning is used and when radiant cooling is used. The results are shown on monthly basis. In both tables, the column denoted ‘Electric load (kWh,)’ in the AC option refers to electrical energy consumed by air-conditioning equipment for a given month.
