This study focused on finding out the cultural values in song lyrics Endeng-endeng of Mandailing society in North Labuhanbatu Regency. The objectives of this study were : (1) to find out the types of cultural values in song lyrics Endeng-endeng, (2) to find out the dominant types that used in song lyrics Endeng-endeng and (3) how the realization of the cultural values in wedding ceremony of Mandailing society in North Labuhanbatu Regency. Marriage is one of the culture universals being that it is contracted in every society of the world, but its mode of contract varies from one society to the other. Marriage is one of life’s major passages, one of the most profound rites of passage that a person or a couple can experience. In many cultures, marriage is generally made known to the public through marriage ceremony. This paper unravels the semiotics of a marriage tradition in Batak Toba Society. Batak Toba is one of the ethnic groups of Batak society, which is still doing wedding tradition as one of its cultural activities. The theoretical framework applied is the conception of signs by Charles Sanders Peirce. According to Peirce, ‘meaning’ is a triadic relation between a sign, an object, and an interpretant. There are three types of signs: icon, index and symbol. This work will reveal the meaning of icons, indexes and symbols in the marriage tradition.

This study is set to explain social standards decoded through traditional songs for Banjarese children. This study is carried out under a descriptive qualitative design. The data are taken from 36 songs sung for different purposes, from lullabies to traditional games companions. Observation and interviews are the techniques employed to collect the data. The observation and the interview are conducted in regions representing two distinguished dialects of the Banjar language: Banjar Hulu and Banjar Kuala. Cultural Linguistics is an approach for data analysis. The lyrics of investigated songs are registered into five categories reflecting different standards expected by Banjarese society for children. The results of the study show the desired and undesired social values believed by Banjarese society. These values are introduced to children, not through the media of preaching, but common practice of Banjarese families, singing.

Gondang music, as a heritage, is preserved and passed down from generation to generation. It has a unique ethical value that it becomes the local wisdom of the Batak Toba people. The purpose of this study is to identify the social values of Batak Toba traditional marriages, and the rules of the Gondang music played at traditional wedding ceremonies. This article analyzes the symbols in the Batak traditional wedding ceremony. Symbols such as language, myths, music, and dances that contain social values namely rules, norms and ethics of traditional wedding ceremonies. "Cultural Meaning in the Lyrics of Minahasa Folk Songs as Local Wisdom" is a result of study that was conducted to get cultural meaning in the lyrics of Minahasan folk songs. The problems of the study are 1) what vocabularies, phrases, clauses, and sentences that can be found in the lyrics of Minahasan folk songs that songs that show local wisdom in Minahasa and 2) what cultural meaning that bore in the lyrics of Minahasan songs. The research is aimed to indentify and classify vocabularies, phrases, clauses, and sentences found in the lyrics of Minahasan folk songs that show local wisdom in Minahasa and 2) explain cultural meaning that bore in the lyrics of Minahasan folk songs. The methods of research that is applied is qualitative descriptive method through the stages of data collecting and analyzing. The data was gathered by technique of observation and interview that then analyzed by semiotics theory of Pierce and Rifaterre. The result of this research is an explanation on cultural meaning that is bored in the lyrics of Minahasan folk song, such as words, phrases, and sentences as local wisdom.

A song, one of the literary works and arts, is full of the contents of the values of the local wisdom of the community, because its creation is usually based on factual phenomena that are happening in the community. This article aims to see the implementation of Tri Hita Karana belief as the local wisdom of Balinese people in Balinese songs entitled Tangis Pertiwi. This song was comprehensively observed and recorded to be analyzed by qualitative methods with a descriptive approach.
