Physical usability and the mobile web

E-learning is an alternative to traditional classroom education and is often referred to as online learning, virtual learning, mobile learning, or digital learning. The rapid development and growth day after day in information and communications technology (ICT) has led to the development and advancement of the Internet, which has led to the emergence of a new type of education, which is e-learning, which relies on Internet, communications and information technology. As a result, the world began to rely on e-learning systems via the Internet, networks, and mobile devices. This has led to it being increasingly developed to enhance the online learning process. Webbased design for e-learning is very important for the Internet, the Interface, usability and interaction web pages to improve performance and usability. It is necessary to identify the factors that have the greatest impact on the quality of these systems. This research aims to study, analyses, research and evaluate the performance measurement of the page model and the objectives of The Interface, usability and interaction using the questionnaire and SPSS analysis for scientific and engineering colleges.

Traditional navigation guidelines for desktop computers may not be valid for mobile devices because they have different characteristics such as smaller screens and keyboards. This paper aims to check whether navigation guidelines for Personal Computers are valid or not for mobile devices. To do this, firstly an evaluation was carried out by a group of advisors with knowledge in web design, and then empirical studies were conducted with real mobile devices and users. Results show that most of the traditional navigation guidelines are valid for current mobile devices, but some of them are not, which suggests that a similar process is necessary to validate traditional guidelines for mobile devices.

This study aims to assess the user experience quality of responsive web design on mobile devices. Data were collected from 156 students at Universitas Indonesia, who were asked to evaluate user experience of web design on one of the following scenarios: responsive web design in both desktop and mobile device environment and nonresponsive web design in mobile device environment. The user experience quality was measured by looking at the number of clicks and scrolls as well as information quality that has been experienced by user. The results of the ANOVA test proved that responsive web design was able to maintain the user experience quality of website on home functionality, content readability, and enjoyment using website but not on the information architecture. In addition, responsive web design was also proven to reduce the amount of scrolling when reading content. However, responsive web design required more scroll and click than nonresponsive one when exploring its information architecture.

The paradigm shift around the Mobile phenomenon – the explosion of mobile online users –, Google’s response to that trend and the what such changes entail further for website developers are issues around which this paper is built. In the first part of this paper we made an analysis of the literature in order to clarify certain terminology and trends of Mobile Web. Further we illustrate the practical aspects of implementing these technological issues for a faculty institutional website (Faculty of Economics and Business Administration within the West University of Timisoara). In the last part, we analyzed statistical data collected during last five years of operation of that website, emphasizing compliance with the trends in the field worldwide.

Thanks to Ethan Marcotte for inventing the technique of Responsive Web Design by which developers can now produce device agnostic websites which respond, with respect to their layout and content presentation, on all kinds of device resolutions without requiring any special modifications. This means a single Responsive Website is now sufficient to serve all device sizes. But being device agnostic is only the first milestone towards responsiveness. This study discusses the technology used by flagship universities to redesign their websites because of internet users increased use of mobile devices. As of April 2016, ninety percent of these Universities have already made their website mobile-friendly using responsive web design. Responsive web design (RWD) is explained with examples. The technology infrastructure that supports RWD is identified and explained. The use, by the 50 flagship universities, is provided in graphical format. Examples of different content approaches to meet mobile requirements are described with examples of university websites that focus on current and future stakeholders. The impact of RWD and new web development technology and the fact that MIS education needs to change to meet this challenge are also discussed.

Mobile technology has quickly become ingrained in society due to the flexibility of anywhere/anytime usage. However, factors associated with and that impact mobility, mobile users, and mobile use of products and services are still poorly understood. For example, even though distractions are ever present during everyday use of mobile devices, the nature and extent to which user perceptions and performance are affected by their presence is unknown. An empirical study was undertaken to investigate the impact of distractions and confirmation of pre-trial expectations on usability and its subsequent effect on consumers’ behavioral intention toward using a mobile device for wireless data services. Distractions were simulated in this study in the form of either user motion or environmental noise (i.e. background auditory and visual stimuli). A Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) analysis confirmed the impacts of distractions on efficiency and effectiveness, and in turn the users’ satisfaction and behavioral intention to use a mobile device for wireless data services. Support was also obtained for a mediating effect of post-trial confirmation of expectations between perceived performance and satisfaction. Implications of these findings for theory, practice, and future research are outlined.
