Cloud computing - A business and economical perspective

In spite of its potential impact on current business world, cloud computing technology still offers fertile and untapped research opportunities. We conduct a systematic literature reviews for the purpose of identifying research gaps in cloud computing literature. It included 188 referred journal and conference articles. Each article was studied carefully to understand its general theme and then extract a pattern to which the article can be classified. Our review efforts led to the identification of four cloud computing general areas: (1) benefits and risks, (2) adoption, (3) outcomes, and (4) its current state from technological and research perspectives. The study is concluded by introducing a number of research questions that need to be empirically and theoretically investigated. This review provides a reference source and classification for IS researchers interested in cloud computing, and identifies research gaps in the literature.

It is a boon for IT industry that can achieve more by paying less cost to infrastructure, keeping low maintenance cost of software and hardware that save the manpower from monotonous upkeep of infrastructure. Cloud has been born from the concept of many but mainly virtualizations that enables a virtual environment constituting virtual resources and devices including storage, server, network and operating system. Further, it aids in segregating the resources corresponding to multiple execution environments. Though it is emerging at an amazing pace still faces rejection due to its various security issues. Cloud has to ensure data security and privacy. This paper describes a detailed analysis of all the security issues faced by both user and developer and their prevention and mitigation strategies. It has been concluded that single security solution is not sufficient for ensuring security thus, hybridization of various technologies and strategies must be implemented to make cloud sound and secure. INTRODUCTION Cloud computing is outlined by National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) as a computing system for having convenient, ubiquitous, on-demand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources (e.g., networks, servers, storage, applications, and services) that can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal management effort or service provider interaction [1]. To run an IT company, resources like data centers with office space, power, cooling, bandwidth, network, servers and storage an d complicated software stacks with a team of experts are required to install, figure and run them are essential. It is challenging to manage all this smoothly by various industries dealing with huge data on daily basis. With cloud computing, releases the burden of buying, installing, maintaining or upgrading any of it [2]. A monthly subscription allows the user to choose services, customize and start using. Thus, opting cloud solution is cheaper, simple and convenient.

However, in spite of the cost benefits, many IT professional believe that the latest model i.e. "cloud computing" has risks and security concerns. This report demonstrates how to answer the following questions: (1) Idea behind cloud computing. (2) Monetary cost benefits of using cloud with respect to traditional premise computing. (3) What are the various security issues? We have tried to find out the cost benefit by comparing the Microsoft Azure cloud cost with the prevalent premise cost.

We also issue a set of recommendations for the practitioners who will provide and manage this technology. For IS researchers, we outline the different areas of research that need attention so that we are in a position to advice the industry in the years to come. Finally, we outline some of the key issues facing governmental agencies who, due to the unique nature of the technology, will have to become intimately involved in the regulation of cloud computing.
