Abstract

The pattem recognition group formed by researchers in the IRI-CSIC and the ESAII Dept at the UPC has been created four years ago but its activity is very high participating in research projects, intemational publishing and organizing relevant events such as ICPR'OO.In this paper we show part of this activity.

IJCNS-COLLATIVE STUDY OF CLASSIFIERS IN PATTEREN RECOGNITION

Pattern recognition which is a field of machine learning has evolved from artificial intelligence. In turn it helps us to make decisions and recognize various patterns. The two fields of pattern recognition are classification and regression. Classification a form of supervised learning helps us to classify the training data into correctly labeled dataset. Classification trees also known as classifiers are used to classify data into expected class. Random forest and REPtree are two such classifiers .Random forest is ensemble of predictor variables which classifies the data in input vector into correctly identified classes. REPTree is fast learning regression tree which is suitable for classifying numerical values. This paper presents algorithm and flow chart for classification using random forest and REPTree. Each of these classifiers have their own advantages and disadvantages Experiments are conducted using WEKA3.7 open source tool and IRIS database set. Based on the conclusions drawn from experiment we can choose a suitable classifier.

Patter recognition" is the Scientific discipline of machine learning (or Artificial Intelligence) that aims at classifying data (Patterns) into a number of categories of classes." Now what is "Pattern" 1) A "Pattern" is an object, process or event that can be given a name. 2) A Pattern is a set of patterns sharing common attributes and usually originating from the same source. So, Pattern Recognition may be characterized as an information reduction information mapping, or information labeling process. The objective of this paper is a to "Automatic speech and speaker recognition." This research directions will emerge and new techniques will be developed to solve some of the new challenging problems. Pattern Recognition is identifying patterns in data. These Patterns tell the data stories through ebbs and flows , spikes, and flat lines. The data itself can be anything :  Text  Images  Sounds  Sentiments and others.

This work tackles the categorization of general linear radial patterns by means of the valleys and ridges detection and the use of descriptors of directional information, which are provided by steerable filters in different regions of the image. We successfully apply our proposal in the specific case of automatic detection of tonic contractions in video capsule endoscopy, which represent a paradigmatic example of linear radial patterns.

AbstractÐThe primary goal of pattern recognition is supervised or unsupervised classification. Among the various frameworks in which pattern recognition has been traditionally formulated, the statistical approach has been most intensively studied and used in practice. More recently, neural network techniques and methods imported from statistical learning theory have been receiving increasing attention. The design of a recognition system requires careful attention to the following issues: definition of pattern classes, sensing environment, pattern representation, feature extraction and selection, cluster analysis, classifier design and learning, selection of training and test samples, and performance evaluation. In spite of almost 50 years of research and development in this field, the general problem of recognizing complex patterns with arbitrary orientation, location, and scale remains unsolved. New and emerging applications, such as data mining, web searching, retrieval of multimedia data, face recognition, and cursive handwriting recognition, require robust and efficient pattern recognition techniques. The objective of this review paper is to summarize and compare some of the well-known methods used in various stages of a pattern recognition system and identify research topics and applications which are at the forefront of this exciting and challenging field.

In this work it is presented a methodology for the development of a pattern recognition system using classification methods as discriminant analysis and artificial neural networks. In this methodology, the statistical analysis is contemplated, with the purpose of retaining the observations and the important characteristics that can produce an appropriate classification, and allows, as well, to detect outliers’ observations, multicolinearity between variables, among other things.
