In this paper, parameter estimation for a FIFO queue involving both observed and unobserved packets is investigated. The unobserved packet arrivals follow a Poisson process with an unknown rate, and maximum likelihood estimation is applied to infer the rate based on the arrival and waiting times of observed packets. The study provides consistency, asymptotic normality, and efficiency results, validated through simulation experiments, which demonstrate that the maximum likelihood estimator is effective for practical applications in queue management.
