while demands on video traffic over mobile networks have been souring, the wireless link capacity cannot keep up with the traffic demand. The gap between the traffic demand and the link capacity, along with time-varying link conditions, results in poor service quality of video streaming over mobile networks such as long buffering time and intermittent disruptions. Leveraging the cloud computing technology, we propose a new mobile video streaming framework, dubbed CCMVA, which has two main parts: AMoV (adaptive mobile video streaming) and ESoV (efficient social video sharing). AMoV and ESoV construct a private agent to provide video streaming services efficiently for each mobile user. For a given user, AMoV lets her private agent adaptively adjust her streaming flow with a scalable video coding technique based on the feedback of link quality. Likewise, ESoV monitors the social network interactions among mobile users, and their private agents try to prefetch video content in advance. We implement a prototype of the CCMVA-Cloud framework to demonstrate its performance. It is shown that the private agents in the clouds can effectively provide the adaptive streaming, and perform video sharing (i.e., prefetching) based on the social network analysis.

Videos are an important part of social platforms. With growing data speeds and high resolution cameras on mobile devices and smartphones, mobile instant and live video clip sharing become increasingly popular. However, video uploads are resource consuming which leads to long upload times, especially in environments with poor data connections. In current mobile applications, the user has little to no influence on optimizing the upload of her/his video according to the current (network) context. In this work, we propose a mobile application that shows an accurate upload time estimation and a current network speed indication. The user can select a video quality for uploading and by that possibly reach faster uploads in low bandwidth connection areas. In a user study with 21 users, we show that users perceive the upload speed as higher with given upload estimation and network speed indication when they have less bandwidth available. With this information, participants perceive the application as more reliable and have an increased feeling of control over the upload process. All users liked the proposed video quality customization feature. Compared to a graphical representation of the network speed, the upload time was the more helpful information to customize the upload.

Social communities are emerging as cloud-based service platforms for communities that also offer communication channels to their users. At the same time, modern telecommunications providers are currently seeking for new sources of revenue by exposing network capabilities to 3rd party providers. Moreover, both mobility and the possibility to access services anyhow, anywhere and at any time are becoming the user's pre-requisites for next generation services. By combining these concepts, it becomes clear that mobile social communities will play a predominate role in our society. This paper presents Mediacast, an innovate service that on the one hand allows users to share and consume multimedia within web social community environments using their mobiles and on the other hand promotes collaboration by providing a set of communication tools for hybrid (web/mobile) communities.

Abstract: Multimedia creation, annotation and sharing are challenging tasks especially of interdisciplinary, intercultural and intergenerational communities. We present the mobile social software Virtual Campfire to provide cross-media and cross-community support for de-and recontextualization of multimedia content, employing Web Services, the MPEG-7 standard and Web 2.0 technologies etc. Virtual Campfire can enable communities to set up and maintain multimedia community information systems quickly and easily.

Abstract. Apart from automated techniques, collaborative multimedia semantic annotation by people, in particular communities of domain experts, are and will be powerful contributors to multimedia semantization. Recently, we extended our LAS server towards an XMPP server, thereby enabling the real time intertwining of communication and the collaborative utilization of remote services, in particular MPEG-7 multimedia semantic annotation and retrieval services.
Nowadays video capturing from mobile and sharing it is common. Consider it be any event, function, performance by an artist, any surprising event. For example, if any famous speaker addressing huge number of people, then this event there may be many people who capture the event in their mobile phones and uploaded it on the video sharing applications (VSA) such as YouTube, Twitter, Facebook. Same event is captured by the hundreds of the devices and uploaded on VSA. This leads to some issues like, huge amount of the bandwidth and battery is use by this activity of uploading videos of the same event and it might also cause the problem while retrieving that video. Numbers of approaches are proposed in the literature to address such problems such as on-demand approach in which first user query is matched to the metadata stored at the server and then data is fetched from user who uploaded the video.We described number of techniques available which gives solution for video sharing and retrieval problems.

Studies of video conferencing systems generally focus on scenarios where users communicate using an audio channel. However, text chat serves users in a wide variety of contexts, and is commonly included in multimedia conferencing systems as a complement to the audio channel. This paper introduces a prototype application which integrates video and text communication, and describes a formative evaluation of the prototype with 53 users in a social setting. We focus the evaluation on bandwidth and view navigation requirements in order to determine how to better serve users with video chat, and discuss how the findings from this evaluation can inform the design of future video chat applications. Bandwidth requirements are evaluated through user perceptions of video delivered using three different bandwidth schemes. For view navigation, we examine a system that automatically switches the video focus to the current "chatter", instead of requiring users to navigate manually to find the video steam they are interested in viewing.
