Serial correlations were performed on grouse bag data spanning periods of 40 to 100 years and taken from throughout the British Isles, to test for the presence of cyclical fluctuations. Six of the fourteen series analysed showed clear evidence of a 6-year cycle in bag numbers. Four of the remaining series produced correlograms suggestive of cycles of other lengths. Only four of the series analysed showed no evidence of cyclicity.
