Italy was the first European country to experience the impact of COVID-19. In order to deal with the health emergency, in early March 2020, the Italian government enforced strict lockdown measures. The different Italian police forces, the Polizia di Stato, Carabinieri and city police forces (Polizia Municipale), patrolled the streets, ensuring that people stayed at home and non-essential shops remained closed. These police forces received unprecedented support from the public in enforcing lockdown. People were active in their neighbourhoods, taking pictures of alleged violators and reporting them to the police, as well as posting pictures of those violating the rules on social networks. The purpose of this study is to analyze the reflections of male harnesses on the Turkish society based on the male harness perspective that supports the social movement of male liberationism in the book the Hazards of Being Male by Herb Goldberg (1992). The social movement of male liberationism, which argues that responsibilities expected of the male individual in terms of proving to the society that he is a real man in processes of socializing establish a hegemony on the man's personality, life, physical and mental health, defends the idea that the patriarchal social structure is harmful for men. Male harnesses determined by Goldberg in a way to support the arguments of the male liberationism movement were listed in the study as label harnesses, activeness harnesses, reservation harnesses and image harnesses. The study included 67 postgraduate thesis that were prepared in the period of 2000-2019 in the field of masculinity, published in the National Thesis Center of YÖK (Turkish Council of Higher Education) and could be accessed as full text which were determined with the method of convenience sampling to be able to trace the reflections in the Turkish society. The included postgraduate theses were analyzed in relation to the determined research questions by content analysis. After examining the thesis quantitatively based on year, level, language, method and topic distribution, labels included regarding male harnesses were qualitatively analyzed. As a result of the analyses, transition stages expected of men in socialization processes which could be associated with the male liberationism movement were encountered. Not all categories of male harnesses could be encountered in the theses made visible by these socialization processes. It was determined that all general titles were included among the encountered categories, but not all harnesses in their details were included in the postgraduate thesis.

This article aims to discover why young people in Indonesia choose Islamic faith-based (sharia) housing that is more homogeneous than conventional housing. This is important because the growth of sharia housing in Indonesia has experienced a significant increase in the last five years. Sharia housing requires residents to be of the same religion, comply with the rules of purchase and follow the payment scheme according to Islamic law. In fact, in the last two years, this homogeneous housing has seen increasing demand among Muslim youth in Indonesia. The intangible cultural heritage (ICH), which is defined as practices, representations, narratives, knowledge, skills and related tools, materials and cultural places that communities, groups, individuals define as part of their cultural heritage, is transferred via the ways including generational narratives, arts and traditions. In the scope of the research, it's aimed to examine the ways of publicity, protection and transfer of the listed values. In order to reach this aim, Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum in Ankara was selected as the research area. In this research, Turkey's ICH, including the ones in UNESCO list and ICH of Ankara, promotion and transmission quality have been revealed within the services and activities offered in the museum. Firstly, a list of ICH created, listed ICH were broached to museum manager and provide him to choose which of them were exhibited by their museum. In the light of the obtained data, in-depth interviews with founders were conducted to get detailed information about ICH can be seen in the museum, the achievement of the aims of the museum and the objectives set by the organizers.

This article focuses on the role of the civics teacher against the backdrop of the recent political developments in Israel, where the political elite increasingly seeks to underpin citizenship education with a national-religious ideology. As in previous work on this topic by other academics, we draw on Gramsci’s work on cultural hegemony to locate the hegemonic discourse of citizenship education in Israel and focus on the teacher’s role along the spectrum of being an agent of the nation-state to acting as a transformative intellectual. We have interviewed Jewish-Israeli civics teachers to gain a better understanding of how they mediate their role between the different demands that the politics of civic education in Israel imposes on them. Our findings outline how teachers sometimes tend to reproduce the hegemonic discourse and how they also find ways to rebel against it, drawing on counter-hegemonic strategies in their classroom practice.

It has been repeatedly shown that sad music induces mainly pleasant or mixed emotions, and is particularly relevant for self-regulation goals. However, this is not entirely compatible with the view that sadness is one of the basic emotions experienced in the face of an unpleasant event or a loss. Also, a distinction between grief and sadness is often drawn, which seemingly does not have relevance in relation to musical experiences. The discrepancy between the positive accounts of emotions associated with sad music and those present in ordinary sadness may be related to the previously unacknowledged spectrum of affects associated with music-related sadness. This paper presents a framework that articulates the complete tourist experience with reference to a traditional local event in Macau-A-Ma Festival. The Stimulus Organism Response (S-OR) framework is deployed to depict the festival experience as a continuous and multistage process. The festivalscape concept provides an elaboration of the festival construct by considering how attendees form enduring attitudes. The authors use the concept as a medium for conveying key festival messages and values from the attendee perspective. They identified a high incidence of spontaneous involvement in the festival. Festival attendance provided respondents with a considerable enhancement of the destination experience.

The United Nations Guideline for the Alternative Care for Children is a framework intended to ensure global de-institutionalization and reintegration of children in care institutions. Despite Ghana's commitments towards de-institutionalization of vulnerable children in need of care, for some children residential care still remains the only formal alternative option. Therefore, this study sought to examine the welfare of children who are still in residential care homes in Ghana. Using the phenomenological approach, triangulated data was collected through in-depth interviews with 79 participants including children, caregivers and management staff of six residential care homes in Ghana. Data from the interviews were thematically analyzed with the assistance of NVivo 11 software. The study revealed frontline staff limitation of addressing emotional needs of children and the managements' fund-raising shortcomings to address logistical challenges. However, children in residential care homes had their basic provisions including; food, shelter and educational needs met. It is suggested that Ghana's child welfare policies should be amended to include compulsory targeted training models to orient caregivers on secure attachment styles and the need to establish short-term bond with children in care. Further studies could examine Ghana's cultural practices on attachment building and bonding among surrogate parents and how it can be adapted in formal childcare practice.

Most Ghanaian mothers left to provide care for their children following separation or a divorce face challenges in meeting their children's basic needs. To ensure that non-resident fathers are engaged in the caregiving, recourse is usually to social workers at the Department of Social Welfare (DSW). There is evidence that, with the intervention of social workers, some fathers agree to provide regular maintenance to support the care of their children. However, there are no empirical studies in Ghana about how mothers learn to report delinquent child maintenance cases. This qualitative study reports findings from in-depth interviews with 15 mothers in contact with the DSW about how they learnt to report delinquent child maintenance. The study revealed the media, knowledge of existing child welfare legislation and information from previous reporters as the factors that influenced mothers' decision to seek recourse to the DSW. Therefore, social workers should be aware of these factors which they can utilise to promote the wellbeing of neglected children by encouraging service users' reportage of parents neglectful behaviours.

Traditionally, the involvement of the extended family in nurturing children is seen as an essential cultural practice in most communities in Ghana. Though not formally regulated, often in the absence of birth parents, kin and kith continue to be involved in the care of children to promote family relations and culture. Yet there is little empirical evidence on how to improve the well-being and safety of children in informal kinship care in Ghana. Thus, this study reports findings from in-depth interviews with 15 young people, 18 to 23 years, from Banda-an ethnic group where informal kinship care is an accepted cultural practice. Data from the interviews were subjected to the constructivist grounded theory analysis. Adequate income for provision of basic needs, education and training, and supervision emerged as useful measures to promote the safety and well-being of children in kinship care. It was recommended that informal kinship caregivers must be registered with the Department of Social Welfare to enable them access support and training. Further, social workers should create awareness among kinship caregivers in Ghana about their availability to provide counselling services for caregivers facing challenges. K E Y W O R D S child safety, child well-being, Ghana, informal kinship care, kinship care 1 | INTRODUCTION Research suggests that one of the better places to keep children, when their biological parents are unable to provide them with adequate care, is within their family environment (Esposito et al., 2014; Montserrat, 2014). Article 20 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child states that vulnerable children in need of care and protection are entitled to adequate substitute care such as care provided by family members and close friends (kinship or family-based care), residential or institutional care and foster care (Ansah-Koi,-2006). Kinship and institutional care are the most commonly used out-of-home care options in Ghana for children in need of alternative care (Abdullah, Cudjoe & Manful, 2018; Bettmann, Mortensen, & Akuoko, 2015). Kinship care within the context of this study refers to care support provided by external family members and close friends. In the Ghanaian context, institutional care normally refers to Orphanages and Children's Homes. Institutional care is usually used as a last resort when members from the extended family are unable to provide the required care for the child (Frimpong-Manso & Bugyei, 2018). However, evidence suggests that these institutions lack the needed human and material resources to meet the emotional and physical needs of children in care (Bettmann et al., 2015; Castillo, Sarver, Bettmann, Mortensen, & Akuoko, 2012). Research has also revealed that the environment in care institutions does not represent that of a family. As a result of this, children do not receive sufficient care from their caregivers, and caregivers are often unable to meet the diverse needs of children due to unfavourable caregiver-child ratio (Castillo et al., 2012). The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child stipulates the need for children and young people to have a say in matters that affect them. Despite being a signatory to this international legislation, Ghanaian children's input in child protection decisions are rarely considered. As a measure to improve child participation in decision making, the possible outcomes for involving children in child protection meetings were explored. Twenty-five parents who have been in contact with a Department of Social Welfare in Ghana took part in the study. This study adapted elements of the constructivist grounded theory approach using an in-depth interview method. The interviews were audio recorded, analysed thematically and managed with NVivo software. Analysis of the interview data revealed positive outcomes of cultural integration and alteration, and children becoming responsible parents in the future. On the other hand, the study revealed escalating maltreatment and obstructing children's education as possible negative outcomes for children when involved in child protection meetings. The findings suggest that child participation in case meetings can present an opportunity to break the cultural barriers of silencing children in decision making. Also, to further protect the child, after-case follow-ups and community sensitisation programmes have to be undertaken by practitioners to mitigate the possibilities of maltreatment from parents following children's involvement in the child protection process.

Through a comparison of the premarital sexual scripts of Chinese and Japanese young adults, we propose a general framework for cross-culturally comparing sexual scripts. Based on a breakdown of narrative structure into six narrative components-act, context, purpose, actors, agency and consequences-this narrative component method of comparison provides a way of accounting for the considerable differences in Japanese and Chinese premarital sexual norms. Both Chinese and Japanese students' normative cultural scenarios for entry into sexual intercourse situate sexual intercourse within a ''love'' relationship; but narrative component analysis reveals key differences in the construction of acts, agents and contexts. Both the Japanese and Chinese findings point to a process of re-embedding sexual behavior in sexual scripts associated with a narrower scope of relational purposes and specific social contexts. The differential embedding of sexual scripts in an idealized relational context is shown to be relevant for the cultural construction of sexual agency. This article explores the value of the use of expressive art in cross-cultural supervision. Due to globalisation and escalating international mobility, universities are becoming increasingly multi-cultural. This poses a challenge to the supervisor who has to assist students in personal and professional growth, particularly considering that various culturally embedded intra-psychic, interpersonal and situational processes and dynamics can influence students' preconceived ideas, expectations and anxiety about supervision. People are often only vaguely aware of the cultural underpinnings of their experiences and may struggle to find words to express their feelings and experiences. Language differences and the difference in the meanings ascribed to experiences due to different cultural backgrounds add to the challenge. Efficient communication is essential for a good supervisor-supervisee relationship. In order for the supervisor to gain insight into the intra-psychic as well as the interpersonal experiences that inform personal and professional growth, an alternative method of communication needs to be explored that will enable the participants to give words to difficult processes. Various projective techniques, such as expressive art, could be used as an alternative form of communication. Art can serve as a narrative that reflects interpersonal and intrapersonal processes. Fourteen individuals, from an African background, participated in the research, thirteen Tswana speaking women from Botswana and a male Tshivenda individual from Venda, with an age range between 25 and 45. The participants registered with the NorthWest University, Potchefstroom Campus, where supervisors are mainly endorsing Westernised and individual values. The participants attended lectures regarding: active listening and communication skills; facilitating counselling processes; and dealing with specific v manifestations of the helping relationship. They engaged with community-based institutions that offered practical implementation of their theoretical knowledge. The students also engaged in weekly supervision with the lecturers at the university. A qualitative, case-study approach by means of the Mmogo™method was used in order to gain insight into the world of human experience and behaviour from the subjective experiences of the participants. This method values the symbolic, contextual groundedness of meaning and provides valuable information regarding social and interpersonal aspects embedded in relationships. Participants were asked to create visual representations that would illustrate any aspect of their growth since the beginning of the year. After the presentations had been made, the participants engaged in focus group discussions. Data gathered from the visual representations, as well as verbal accounts, were analysed by means of semiotic data analysis. This is an inductive form of analysis that begins with detailed observation and explanation of the presentations, and then continues towards deductions and abstract generalisations about the representation. This is done by means of denotation and connotation. The aim of the research was twofold. Firstly, this research aimed to explore the themes that emerged in a cross-cultural supervision relationship. Secondly, this research explored the possible value of the use of expressive art, which is referred to as the Mmogo™method, in cross-cultural group supervision. Central themes that emerged from the data suggested that participants transfer culturally embedded values and norms to their new learning environment. It further elicited valuable information regarding aspects that could play a significant role in personal and professional development. These aspects include: the nature of interaction between the individual and the community; the needs and requirements of the community in order to be conducive to growth; and also the growth needs and requirements of the individual. With regards to the use of the Mmogo™method, it has provided a valuable means of eliciting rich information that would not necessarily be shared in normal familiar one-onone conversations. Apart from having a socio-economic dimension, agrarian conflicts in Bongkoran, Banyuwangi Regency, East Java Province, Indonesia, also have a legal dimension. Drawing on ethnographic research, this paper investigates the gendered involvement in early literacy programs at one central library in the Greater Toronto Area. This study consisted of observations and field notes across family literacy programs, along with in-depth interviews with librarians and mother attendees. In particular, this research explores the invisible labour of mother involvement in "family" literacy programs targeting children aged 0-8, along with the role of librarians in structuring such early literacy programs. Referring largely to Griffith and Smith's (Mothering for schooling, RoutledgeFalmer, New York, 2005) notion of the mothering discourse, this study suggests that there are specific kinds of early literacy work that are deemed "appropriate" and "valued" (i.e., taking trips to the library; being read to daily, turning everyday domestic labour into teachable moments), and certain individuals (i.e., moms) who are assumed or expected to carry out such work at home. This study also reveals that both mothers and librarians continue to participate in dominant discourses of mothering, specifically in relation to early literacy work assumed to prepare children for schooling. Such findings have implications for future research that considers mothering work and early resource supports for families.

Throughout the literature on Cultural Evolutionary Theory (CET) attention is drawn to the existence and significance of an analogy between biological phenomena and socio-cultural phenomena (the “biology-culture analogy”). Mesoudi (2017) seems to argue that it is the accuracy of the analogy, and the magnitude of accurate instances of this analogy at work, which provides warrant for an evolutionary approach to the study of socio-cultural phenomena, and, thus, for CET. An implication of this is that if there is evidence to suggest that the analogy is not accurate, or that there aren’t many cases where it is accurate, this would constitute evidence to reject an evolutionary approach to the study of socio-cultural phenomena. As such, opponents of CET raise objections highlighting the weakness of the biology-culture analogy. İlköğretim düzeyinde yer bilimini temel alan fen bilimleri ders içeriğinde, deprem eğitiminin yeri bu araştırmanın temel odak noktasını oluşturmaktadır. Araştırma, nitel araştırma desenlerinden durum çalışması modeline göre hazırlanmıştır. Araştırmanın veri kaynağını Türkiye'de hazırlanan son üç öğretim programı (2005, 2013 ve 2018) ve beşinci sınıf ders kitabı olarak kullanılan iki ders kitabı (MEB ve Özel yayın) oluşturmuştur. Doküman incelemesi tekniği ile toplanan verilerin analizinde betimsel analiz kullanılmıştır. Öğretim programları içerik tasarımı, kitaplar ise kapsam tasarımı, eğitsel, görsel ve ölçme değerlendirme tasarımı olmak üzere beş temadan oluşan rubriği temel alarak incelenmiştir. Kitapların öğretim programının eksikleri nedeniyle içerik açısından yetersiz olduğu, özel yayına ait kitabın MEB yayınına göre kısmen daha yetkin olduğu belirlenmiştir. Sonuç olarak konunun toplumsal bilinç oluşturulması için önemi düşünüldüğünde ders kitaplarında yer verilen konu içeriği ve kapsamının alanında uzman kişiler tarafından gözden geçirilip eksikliklerin giderilmesi ile daha faydalı hale getirilebileceği kanaatine ulaşılmıştır.

Background: Worldwide, mental health issues constitute a substantial threat to people's social, economic, and mental well-being and contribute significantly to many fatalities each year. In Bangladesh, people with mental health issues typically delay contacting health professionals because they prefer traditional or religious healers. Moreover, the situation is exacerbated by a lack of awareness, social stigma, and negative perception of sufferers of mental health issues on the part of families and the community. Therefore, this paper investigates the social perception and stigmatization of individuals living with mental health problems and their caregivers in Khulna, Bangladesh. Methods: Data were collected from university students with concurring mental health issues as well as their closest caregivers, who had in-depth knowledge of the problem and a willingness to take care of the individuals with mental health issues. Following the criteria for data collection, eight individuals living with mental health problems and five caregivers were purposively selected for this research. A semi-structured in-depth interview guide was used for the confidential data collection process, which took place in November and December 2021, and each interview lasted 40-50 min on average. Results: This study used thematic analysis to present the results; the findings showed that: individuals afflicted with mental health problems sought both medical and spiritual support to recover. Those with mental health issues who received positive family support recovered relatively faster than those who did not. However, negative social perception and stigmatization were the key impediments for individuals suffering from mental health problems and their families, as they found it difficult to discuss their issues with relatives and communities when attempting to access support or seek remedies. Moreover, the commonality of social stigmas, such as labeling mental health problems as equal to 'madness, ' hindered disclosure to family members, peers, and the community.

Agriculture forms a major source of livelihood for many people in Lesotho. The major agricultural activities include crop production and animal husbandry. Many farmers produce agricultural goods, mainly crops for subsistence purposes. There are also some subsistence farmers who participate in animal husbandry. Subsistence farmers keep livestock mainly for social and economic purposes. For instance, some farmers rear animals for prestige, ploughing, paying bride prices as well as producing milk for household use. The traditional breeds of cattle in many parts of Lesotho are kept mainly for domestic use. Despite a large number of Basotho farmers keeping livestock for subsistence purposes, there are some farmers who rear cattle for producing milk. These cattle are purchased from the neighbouring South Africa, while some are crossbred in the country. Some dairy farmers are members of associations, while others are not. Both association members and non-members market the milk in the local dairy industry, Lesotho Dairy Products (LDP). The supply of milk to the local dairy industry is not sustainable due to the small number of farmers participating in dairy farming. This has thwarted the capacity of the dairy industry to produce a variety of dairy products for the domestic market. As a result, the local market is flooded with milk products imported from South Africa. This shows that the forward linkage between LDP and farmers is too weak. This has in turn affected the output (backward linkage) of the dairy industry negatively. The industry specialises in the production of a few dairy products. In this article, we draw on a study of the transition experiences of young Indonesian musicians to argue that the social capital of creative youth may be productively understood in relation to reflexivity and temporality. This is particularly important if they move to other locations to further their careers. In brief, we offer three key contributions to social capital debates. First, social capital-as defined by Bourdieu-is most important as a valuable form of capital to deal with both actual and anticipated Beckian risk. Second, in fields of creative struggle, the development of social capital is closely related to possession of strategy and reflexivity as a form of cultural capital. Third, social capital cannot be operationalized effectively by youth without the element of timing and the temporal capacity to reflexively recognize and seize opportunities as they arise at critical moments of a creative career.

Children in foster care often have no means of influencing matters that concern them, and can easily become outsiders in their own lives. The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child enshrines the rights of capable children to express their views freely in matters affecting them and to be heard in any judicial or administrative proceedings concerning them. The aim of this study is to analyse foster children's participation in child welfare processes in different time periods and contexts from the perspective of children and social workers. The data comprise semi-structured interviews of eight children and young people aged seven to 17 in family foster care, as well as interviews of four child welfare social workers. Ethical questions were taken carefully into account. The results suggest that participation in matters concerning them is very significant to children, although they do not always want be active participants (e.g. in meetings). The children hoped that social workers would take a genuine interest in them, listen to them and take their opinions and wishes into consideration. Children sought true and essential information about the reasons for placements and the plans for their future. They felt they were better heard and more able to influence their own affairs after being placed in a foster home than during earlier phases of services. The study identifies many obstacles in children's participation at different systemic levels. Children's loyalty to their parents may prevent them from expressing their opinions. According to social workers, the most serious obstacles in participatory work with children are related to a lack of human and time resources. Social workers need time, work practices, skills and practical wisdom through which children's personal experiences, opinions and wishes can be better heard. They also seek support in handling the emotional aspects of childprotection work and suggest some other measures to develop their work.
