A comment on the Invariance of the Speed of Light

This scientic article develops the theory of relativity regardless of the principles "constancy of light speed", "homogeneity and isotropy of space", and "timing of clocks" in a minkowskian space-time on the basis of electromagnetic fields and reference frames features. In this article we do not think into the invariance of Maxwell equations. It is proved that in this context, orthogonal transformation preserves the skew-adjoint property of electromagnetic field. Thereby it is derived the Lorentz transformations and (in part II) the Lorentz boost. A previous paper demonstrated that spacetime transformations consistent with the principle of relativity can be derived without assuming explicitly the constancy of the speed of light. Here we correct an error in the earlier paper while showing that this derivation can be done under weaker assumptions, in particular, without an implicit assumption of differentiability or even continuity for the spacetime mapping. Hence, these historic results could have been derived centuries ago, even before the advent of calculus. This paper studied why the speed of light is always constant regardless of the speed of the light source or the observer. I also studied that the theory of relativity can be described only with the basic properties of time and space without introducing the constancy of the speed of light as a basic principle. This logical process presupposes that the correct length change in the special theory of relativity is length expansion, not length contraction, and I have confirmed that length expansion is consistent with known relativistic experimental results.

This article proves that speed of light in all uniformly moving inertial reference frames is absolute as postulated by Einstein. This is first done by considering light propagating with a speed c in all directions in an inertial frame of reference. If that frame is moving uniformly with a speed v relative to a second stationary inertial frame, we assume that light in the second frame is propagating in all directions with a different speed c= c. Consequently, modified transformation Equations are formed. The established Poincaré ellipsoidal light waves are then used to find the Equation that governs the relation of  at any speed v. The analytical solution and numerical calculations to this equation yield a value  =1. This proves that speed of light propagates through empty space with speed c independent of the speed of the light source or the observer.

In Special Theory of Relativity time is considered to be the 4 th dimension of space -time as a consequence of Lorentz invariance and Minkowski metric, in turn based on the invariance of light speed c. In this paper we'll show that, starting only from universal postulates as homogeneity of space and time and Principle of Relativity, we can obtain space and time transformations (as the Lorentz and Tangherlini -Selleri ones) characterized by an invariant speed generally different than c. These results determine crucial difficulties in the assumption of Minkowski metric and consequently in the interpretation of physical time t as the 4 th component of space -time, also introducing a "relativity" feature in the velocity of light c in vacuum being no longer considerable as a necessarily universal invariant quantity and depending on the physical properties of space which originate from quantum vacuum. A novel interpretation of time, coherent with these results, defined as duration of material change in space, i.e. motion, is finally proposed.

Special Relativity theory postulates that the laws of physics are the same in all inertial frames of reference (the relativity postulate), and that the velocity of light in vacuum has the same value c in all inertial frames of reference (constancy of c postulate). We hereby show that relativity principle need not be postulated, since it follows from basic principles, without reliance on Lorentz transformations, or equivalently, reliance on the constancy of light postulate. The independency of the principle of relativity on the constancy of light postulate is featured by a different symmetry of Nature from the one constrained by the Lorentz transformations. We also show that that the same deductions apply to the relativity of simultaneity principle. Furthermore, we show that the symmetry of the laws of Nature, as being embedded in Nature itself, is a general law, which holds true for ALL systems of moving bodies, regardless of the velocity of the signal which carries information between one frame of reference to another, provided that the velocity of the information carrier is constant with respect to its source, and exceeds the relative velocities between the system's reference frames.

A new relativistic transformation in the velocity space (here named the differential Lorentz transformation) is formulated solely from the principle of relativity and the invariance of the speed of light. The differential Lorentz transformation is via transforming physical quantities, instead of space-time coordinates, to make laws of nature form-invariant. The differential Lorentz transformation may provide a way to resolve the incompatibility of the theory of special relativity and the quantum theory.

A discussion related to the uniqueness of the velocity of Light

Light velocity, when measured by Humans, would always result in a constant value and the maximum possible velocity that humans can measure, a claim that was presented by Einstein's Special Relativity Theory as an axiom, without any proof. The above demonstrates the uniqueness of the velocity of Light. But it should be also emphasized that the velocity of Light also presents a severe peculiarity, which is presented as follows: When a moving Human spectator measures the velocity value of any tangible substance, for example, the velocity of a moving Mass body, the velocity, and the direction of motion of this spectator, relative to the velocity and the direction of motion of this Mass body, does affect the measured velocity value of this Mass body, by this Human spectator.

Special Relativity Theory (SRT) has two postulates, one stating that the laws of physics are the same for all observers, and the other stating that the speed of light is the constant 186,000 miles per second, regardless of any reference frames. As a result of these postulates, SRT renders predictions such as: 1) No object can travel faster than 186,000 miles per second (the speed of light itself); 2) On approaching the speed of light, a moving object contracts in length in the direction of motion, while 3) a clock traveling with the object slows down; 4) The mass of an object multiplied by the square of the speed of light gives energy ( E mc2 ); i.e., mass could be converted to energy and vice versa; 5) Observers do not agree on the simultaneity of events - two events that are simultaneous for one observer might not be simultaneous for another. There are evident inconsistencies among these predictions. There is also a philosophical problem relating to the nature of reality. Could there be more than one reality in Nature; that is, can reality be subjective, and only a matter of interpretation? This paper explores the evident inconsistencies and the philosophical problem by developing arguments and providing numerical examples.
