This paper explores the efficiency and performance of 2D versus 3D direct manipulation interfaces in virtual environments. It highlights the significant challenges novice users face when using higher-dimensional input devices compared to traditional 2D graphical interfaces. Experimental results indicate that 2D techniques outperformed 3D techniques in terms of completion time and accuracy, suggesting that improvements in interaction interfaces are necessary for broader usability in virtual reality.
