Taking Frames Out of (News) Videos

Abstract

— Videos are an integral part of today's life. Our daily life is dependent on videos. You want to learn new technology, open a video tutorial; you want to cook something new, open a video online; internet cloud is full of video data these days. Accordingly, the need of extracting out the relevant information from the videos has increased, may be in the area of forensic science, video annotation, indexing, video text extraction, object detection to name a few. So, detecting informative part out of video has become an active research area these days. The foremost requirement of any such application is to take the frames out of video to further process them. This paper highlights such techniques and tools, with the help of which frames can be pulled out of video sequence. Also, this paper presents a snippet for taking clear and exact frames from the video in various ways.

Typically, multiple ‘B’ frames are inserted between two consecutive ‘P’ or between ‘I’ and ‘P’ frames. The existence of GOPs smooth the progress of implementation of features such as random access, fast forward or fast and normal reverse playback. Resolution of video: Video resolution is generally expressed as width x height, with the value given in pixels. Frames among two consecutive ‘I’ frames, as well as the leading ‘I’ frame, are collectively called as group of pictures (GOP). The GOP is illustrated in figure 1. The illustrated figure has one ‘I’ frame, two ‘P’ frames and six ‘B’ frames.

There are a lot of online facilities available to convert the video into images. DVDvideosoft is one such portal for conversion between various formats. However, This provides user with the flexibility of choosing the count of frame/image or time span, this means user can decide which frame number he/she wants to capture viz. every 10th frame or say every 20th frame. Once you download the .exe file of DVD video converter and install it on your machine, the screen as shown in Figure 2 appears on opening the software to start with conversion. As seen in the Figure 2 , in the box titled ‘Extract’, there are options available viz. Every .. frame, Every .. second and total number of frames from the video. User can set the frequency of frames to be extracted. Once chosen , click on the ‘Convert’ button.

PERCEPTUAL HASHING FOR MINIMALLY CHANGING VIDEOS USING ADAPTIVE CORRELATION AND 3D-DCT

Multimedia is an essential way of communication. Video is a subset of multimedia where it has many changes in spatial domain and temporal direction. If there is correlation in both the domain with minimum changes then it is called as minimally changing videos. In this article, we propose a perceptual hashing using adaptive correlation and the 3D-DCT for minimally changing videos. Perceptual hashing is the process of extracting the perceptual features from the input video and generating compact, fixed length hash value. This work has two phases namely, hash creation phase and the comparison phase. Here we extract the perceptual feature of the query video and generate the corresponding hash. This hash is compared with the hashes in the database. If the normalized Hamming distance between the hash of the query video and a video hash of the database is close to 0 then the videos are perceptually similar and if the normalized Hamming distance is close to 1 then they are perceptually different videos. Perceptual hashing can be used for integrity verification, video authentication and video copyright management. An application for indexing and retrieving the near-identical videos is demonstrated using the proposed video hashing algorithm.

Content-based Text Retrieval using Image Processing Techniques

This paper presents a better mechanism to retrieve the text contents present in the videos which are divided into frames and to obtain more accurate results. The Growth of videos in today's Internet usage is extensive and with the advancement in multimedia technology, the rapid increasing usage of large image database becomes possible. In order to carry out an efficient retrieval and management of videos, Content-Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) is used. Sometimes users are interested in the content present in the video. Content-Based Video Retrieval is one of the techniques which extracts the required data and thus it saves the time of the user. The proposed mechanism involves several steps, which are Key Frame Extraction, Font and Background Colour Segmentation, Estimation of the threshold, Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and Stopword Removal. Initially, the video is divided into a number of frames which are then used for further processing. Frames obtained are subjected to Font and Background Colour Segmentation. To perform the segmentation, threshold value is necessary for which OTSU's thresholding technique is used. This produces the images in which foreground text has a different colour when compared with the background of an image. This enables an easy identification between the characters and rest of the image. At the end, stopwords like the, an, a, am, as, at and many more will be removed. The final output consists of a document containing only the important information which is essential to the user.

AV Encryption Algorithm to Protect Audio visual Content for IPTV

— Crypt analytical techniques for multimedia technologies particularly audio visual applications have shown some existing flaws while maintaining the security and computational time. This case study is a representative algorithm especially for protection of IPTV contents. The network's reliability and security of contents is the major issue in IPTV media business. The proposed algorithm is the Audio Video MPEG file encryption technique in which the synchronization between audio and video and the frame sequence is shuffled before the transmitting end or vertical device.. The shuffling process is guided by input key frames to point out frame positions. The MPEG video frames are first extracted via spatial pyramid kernel. It divides the stream into regions over different scales and to find out the frame similarity while on merging of AV frames. Then ciphers are implemented to locate the shuffled frames and further genetic algorithm such as AES is used to encrypt. By this way, AV contents of IPTV can be secure from malicious users.
