The term “Ahl al-Bayt” linguistically means household of a person which generally refers to a man himself, his wife(s), children at the very least and can extends to whoever lives within that person's guardianship. There has been an age-long controversy between the Ahlu Sunnah and the Shi'ah regarding the identity of the noble Prophet's Ahl al-Bayt. And what is expected to be an academic and knowledge based dialogue is usually being generated to an Armageddon on the fact that each side seemed to protect her position rigidly. Even though many things have been said on the subject, yet the precise important point are usually left out. This short article touch this specific in a simple academic manner.

This book "lying at the crossing of two main subjects: sanctity and family", consists of four chapters, each containing 3-4 articles. Even though there is a detailed bibliography after every article, a general selective bibliography is also included, as well as a "List of Contributors" and a "Thematic Index". The papers are mainly in English, with three contributions in French. The introduction written by Catherine Mayeur-Jaouen and Alexandre Papas, provides information about the main definitions of the hagiography, family, sanctity and other significant issues in Islamic studies, and gives a brief overview of some essays included in the book under review. It is followed by the first chapter called "Holy Models for Family Scene" consisting of 4 articles. The first one, "Le prophète en famille" by Denis Gril, is a detailed account of the family life of the Prophet Muhammad. One of the central questions, Gril discusses here is "what role do distant or close ancestors, parents, the wife or wives and finally children, grandchildren and their posterity play in the life of the saints"? (p. 67).The author addresses the issue of the differences between the notions of "prophet" and "saint". The next article, "Les enfants qu'ils étaient: récits d'enfance merveilleuse dans Anbā' nujabā' al-abnā' d'Ibn Zafar al-Siqillī et leur valeur comme source historique" by Avner Giladi, acquaints the reader with the biography and literary activities of Muhammad ibn Zafar, and shows the importance of his book Anbā' nujabā' al-abnā' for the study of the Prophet's childhood and, in general, the history of childhood and the elementary education in the Muslim world.

The household of the Prophet is an example that needs to be imitated by every Moslem; how he always tried to be just and wise as a husband in dealing with daily domestic problems. This paper aims to look at the household problems faced by the Prophet Muhammad SAW and his method in solving these problems, by referring to the traditions of the Prophet SAW (hadith). This research is a descriptive-qualitative with reference to library resources, both in the form of the Prophet's sirah and hadiths, taken from primary hadith compilation, books, scientific journals and other relevant library sources. Domestic turmoil is common in every household, even with the Messenger of God, starting from the jealousy between wives, the prosecution of material rights, to the accusations of adultery that befell Sayyidah 'Aisyah and Mariah Al-Qibtiyyah. As any other husband, there were so many household problems faced by the Prophet, yet he managed to find the best solution based on the conditions and situations. To resolve these problems, the Prophet confronted them with the method of smiling, teasing, reminding, and being patient, but also firm and did not hesitate to separate his wife for a while.

The respect and veneration accorded to the family of the Prophet Muḥammad are unparalleled in Islamic society. Political or religious affiliations notwithstanding, the Prophet’s family – most importantly his descendants through his daughter Fāṭima and his cousin ʿAlī b. Abī Ṭālib, collectively known as the ʿAlids – were held in high esteem even by those who rejected their claims to the leadership of the Muslim community. Within the hierarchy of Islamic society, the ʿAlids were ‘a blood aristocracy without peer'. This first social history of the descendants of the Prophet Muhammad in early Islam This first in-depth study of the 'Alids focuses on the crucial formative period from the Abbasid Revolution of 750 to the Saljuq period of 1100. Exploring their rise from both a religious point of view and as a social phenomenon, Bernheimer investigates how they attained and extended the family’s status over the centuries. The 'Alids are the descendants of the Prophet Muhammad, the elite family of Islam. The respect and veneration they are accorded is unparalleled in Islamic society, regardless of political or religious affiliation. And they have played a major role Islamic history, from famous early rebels to the founders and eponyms of major Islamic sects, and from 9th-century Moroccan and 10th-century Egyptian rulers to the current King of Jordan, the Ayatollah Khomeini and the Aga Khan. Key Features In-depth exploration of the distinction between Shi'ites and 'Alids: opens new possibilities for the understanding of the sectarian differences between Sunnis and Shi'ites Based on a wide range of primary sources in both Arabic and Persian Draws on historical, legal and biographical material Critically examines recently published genealogical works on the 'Alid family
