Abstract
Abstract The focus of this thesis is semantic annotation of text documents in the context of the Semantic Web. Semantic annotation is the annotation of a World-Wide Web or other natural language document in order to assign explicit real-world meaning to its elements. The transition to the Semantic Web requires the development of robust and scalable tools largely automating the semantic annotation process.
