Game architecture is an important topic in game development. Even though there are several learning strategies framework to learn game, there is a lack of adaptive model that focuses on how education adventure-games aid in learning game architecture. Thus, the main objective of this research is to develop Adaptive Model: Education-Adventure Games for Game Architecture Learning Process (EDUADV Framework). This research conducted a survey to investigate students' perception of game and its importance in game architecture learning process. EDUADV Adaptive Model has been developed based on literature review and analysis. This model is derived from the comparison of components from two game architecture frameworks and 22 elements of game architecture. Quasi-experiment which involved thirty-three Diploma in Game Design students was employed to verify the model. Pre-test was conducted with Control and Treatment Group after several weeks of learning the game architecture theory. The Treatment Group were then taught using Education Adventure Games while the control group continued learning theoretically. The results of the study revealed the Post Test Result for the Control Group and Treatment Group where the pass percentage for understanding all elements was more than 70% while the understanding of several elements for Control Group was below 70%. This showed that Education-Adventure Game has brought benefits towards increasing the students' understanding of game architecture development.
Game-based learning has dominantly embedded itself into a tool of education in the 21st century. In developing educational games, many researchers have proposed frameworks to define elements of an educational game. This paper presents a survey of the different frameworks for educational games and analyzes these frameworks against several criteria for effective video games, well-designed games and key elements of educational games. The authors will also look at the frameworks support towards learning theories. In addition, the analysis continues in the context of software engineering practices to develop effective educational games.

This paper presents an extensible multi-platform educational game framework. This new framework enhances the point-and-click adventure game model used in a preexisting educational game framework (eAdventure) by extending it with new game metaphors and interactions. These include minigames (e.g. puzzles, stories, word-games) suited for a greater variety of subjects (e.g. math, history, science) that are configured through a plug-in architecture. Targeting multiple platforms allows for the transparent deployment and use of the developed games in new mobile devices (e.g. tablets) and other systems of growing interest in the educational community. Unifying these aspects into one platform is a challenging task because it must implement the appropriate balance between expressivity, game production costs and possibilities to re-use successful educational game models. The basic adventure metaphor is used as a backbone to provide a strong narrative to drive games and engage the students.

Although Virtual Learning Environments have become popular educational tools, they remain a very active research topic. Two important aspects being discussed for next-generation VLEs are how to track the performance of the students for assessment and how to provide personalized learning experiences (i.e. adaptive learning). In this line, educational videogames could contribute thanks to their highly interactive nature. However the combination of VLEs and educational games requires solving diverse conceptual and practical challenges. In this paper we present a general architecture to integrate games in VLEs with special emphasis on how to abstract the communication between the videogames and the VLEs for assessment and adaptation purposes. the problem of how to use it for assessment and adaptation purposes arises, as these communication protocols were not designed to connect VLEs with so interactive content as videogames are . In this paper we present a general architecture that aims to tackle both issues by abstracting the communication between the game and the VLE for adaptation and assessment purposes.

The study reports on an ongoing research that intends to identify and validate the core dimensions for Game-Based-Learning (GBL) and further explore the shift in dimensional focus between different phases of educational game development life cycle: pre-production (design), production (development) and post-production (testing and maintenance). Hence, this paper presents the initial work focusing on design phase by presenting a comparative analysis of educational game design models using GBL attributes, validity and framework attributes as analytical lens. The main objective is to analyze the fundamental GBL attributes in existing design models; to identify the common attributes which demonstrate their importance for design phase and highlight any need for further research in terms of attribute validation and framework improvement. This study also highlights the strengths and weakness of existing design frameworks. The results of analysis underline learning/pedagogical aspects and game factors as the most essential attributes for design phase of educational games. Comparative analysis also guides researchers/practitioners to better understand GBL through various properties of different existing design models and highlights the open problems such as lack of tool support, empirical validation, independent evaluations, adaptability and absence of concrete guidance for application to make more informed judgments.

Abstract Three design principles are advanced for multi-user educational videogames. First, they should support situative embodiment in academic knowledge, where personally meaningful activities and coherent narratives foster collective engagement. Second, they should offer multiple levels and forms of meaningful assessment and the opportunity to succeed, fail, and try again. Third, they should provide useful feedback that is used to enhance participation, learning, and curricula.

There are many issues and potentials in the field of educational games. This chap-ter was developed as a collaborative blogging effort among contributing authors of this book to discuss some of the current problems and the future potentials for educational games. A variety of questions were provided in a blog format to allow an evolving discussion among the authors. Topics covered within the chapter in-clude games and the instructional design field, problems associated with games, assessment and games, cultural implications for games in education, and future potentials for games in education. Games in education have become a large topic of interest in the field of instruc-tional design and education. Between numerous presentations at conferences like the Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT), devel-opment of gaming special interest groups, special issues of journals such as Tech

Abstract Modern technologies have brought many innovations into the system of education. Learners now have an opportunity to educate with the help of electronic materials often provided by web-based infrastructures. Although the majority of learners-especially children or teenagers-find studying from such materials less exciting than playing today's popular computer games that, however, lack signs of education.

Serious games seem to be a promising alternative to traditional practices for learning. Recently, their use in computer science education and learning programming became more widespread. Actually, many students in programming courses have difficulties to master all required competencies and skills especially at introductory level and games have the potential to be an important teaching tool for their interactive, engaging and immersive activities. However, the critical point of a serious game remains the relation between the game and its pedagogical content. In fact, a serious game has to deal with two scenarios: the game scenario and the pedagogical scenario. In this paper, we introduce a system that aims to improve algorithmic learning using serious games. We propose a method for managing both game and pedagogical scenarios along with a double adaptation: the first phase that adapts the pedagogical scenario and the second phase that adapts the game scenario. We propose a software architecture that ensures the interaction between the aforementioned two phases. The learning and the game scenarios are planned according to the student's profile, his pedagogical path, his progress in the game and also taking into account the collected traces in the observation phase.
