Abstract
Assistive technologies are being developed for visually impaired people to live independently and confidently. This project work proposes a camera-based assistive text reading framework to help blind persons to read text labels and product packaging from hand-held objects in their daily lives. The project work is framed into three stages: Image capturing, Text recognition , Speech output. The project work can be able to insist the blind people in their daily life. The entire application will run on Raspberry pi B. The Raspberry pi B is a credit card sized single computer or So C , or System on a Chip, is a method of placing all necessary electronics for running a computer on a single chip. Instead of having an individual chip for the CPU, GPU, USB controller, RAM everything is compressed down into one package. Raspberry pi B needs an Operating system to start up. In the aim of cost reduction, the Raspberry pi B omits any on-board non-volatile memory used to store the boot loaders, Linux Kernels and file systems as seen in more traditional embedded systems. Rather, a SD/MMC card slot is provided for this purpose. After boot load, as per the application program Raspberry pi B will get execute. Obstacle detection is also provided in this system to recognise the obstacle in front and produce the voice output through Ear phone to blind users.

Nowadays realtime hardware implementation of Text to Speech and Speech to text conversion systems playing a crucial role in several real time applications such as reading aid for blind people and talking aids for vocally handicapped people and robotics etc. This paper describes the design and implementation of a system which involves conversion of text information present in the image to speech information and conversion of speech information given by user into text information. In this context raspberry pi has been chosen as a hardware platform to implement the proposed method. For the implementation proposed system Logitech C170 camera module and Bluetooth HC-05 module were interfaced to raspberry pi device. The concept used in this project are tesseract OCR(Optical Character Recognition),espeak TTS(Text to Speech) engine,AMR(android meets robots) voice to text application software. The code which is used in the proposed system is used in the python programming language. The prop...
A camera-based label reader is used to help blind person which helps them in reading names of the label on the product. The camera captures the label image of the product which is in front of it, detects the product label image and then the image is separated using open CV library. The image label is then identified and can be heard by the blind person through voice. Earphones can be used for this, connected to the audio jack. The kit used for execution is the Raspberry PI which consists of various slots. This system also helps to find obstacle which appears in front of the blind person with the use of sensors.
— Self-Dependency for disabled persons is of prime importance. This paper presents a cost effective prototype system to help blind persons to shop independently. A camera based prototype system is proposed in which label of the product which a blind user wishes to buy will be extracted from the image and will be pronounced as voice. To isolate the object of interest from the captured image sequence or video, the user is asked to shake the product. Background subtraction will be used to detect the object of interest that is nothing but Region of Interest (ROI). Text extraction will be performed on ROI to obtain the label of product. The prototype system will be implemented on Raspberry Pi board.

In this paper an innovative, efficient and real-time cost beneficial technique that enables user to hear the contents of text images instead of reading through them as been introduced. It combines the concept of Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and Text to Speech Synthesizer (TTS) in Raspberry pi. This kind of system helps visually impaired people to interact with computers effectively through vocal interface. Text Extraction from color images is a challenging task in computer vision. Text-to-Speech is a device that scans and reads English alphabets and numbers that are in the image using OCR technique and changing it to voices. This paper describes the design, implementation and experimental results of the device. This device consists of two modules, image processing module and voice processing module. The device was developed based on Raspberry Pi 3 Model 3.

Developing a tool for the visually impaired people is a trivial area of concern. However, use of computer vision in these devices is a fairly new trend and recent topic of interest. There are several works using computer vision techniques which focus on specific requirements of blind people. But there is no existing methods that help to solve all the basic needs of blind person. In this paper, we propose an idea of a device which can capture images in real time and comprehend its equivalent speech directly into the ear of visually impaired person. This new system may solve some of major problems of blind persons that are still exists. The prototype facilitates object detection using image recognition techniques. Open Computer Vision (OpenCV) performs image analysis, classification of images and prediction of the type of object on household object dataset. This prediction is converted to audio output using gTTS (Google Text to Speech Converter). This audio output can be fed to earpho...

Assistive technologies are being developed for Visually impaired people in order to live confidently. This project work proposes a camera-based assistive text reading framework to help blind persons read text labels and product packaging from hand-held objects in their daily lives. The project work is framed into three stages. First, Image capturing-Using a mini camera ,the text which the user need to read get captured as an image and have to send to the image processing Platform. Secondly, Text recognition-Using text recognition algorithm, the text will get filtered from the image. Finally, Speech output-A filtered text will be passed into this system to get an audio output. This project work can be able to insist the blind people in their daily life. The entire application will run on Raspberry Pi.

Speech and text is main medium for human communication. a personal needs eyesight access the knowledge during a text. However people that have very poor eyesight can collect information from voice. The proposed system can help the visually impaired persons to read any printed text in vocal form. A specs inbuilt camera is employed to capture the text image from printed text and thus the captured image is analyzed using Tesseract-Opical Character Recognition (OCR). The detected text is then converted into speech employing a compact open source software synthesizer, speak. Finally the synthesized speech is produced by the headphone by provides an interface between camera, sensor & image processing results, while also performing functions to manage the peripheral units. The programing language is employed is python.

Independent living is one of the major concerns for people around the globe. But when it comes to people who are visually challenged, they always rely on other people to get their daily things done. In today's advanced technical environment, the need for self-sufficiency is recognized in the situation of visually impaired people who are socially restricted. More than 90% of individuals with blindness and low vision are mostly seen in developing countries. Visually impaired people always need the help of others, and they rely on others for essential needs. In this project, we developed a system that uses a conglomeration of technologies like Object detection, Speech Recognition, etc, to solve the problems faced by blind people to a certain extent. It makes use of a camera module that acts as a virtual eye for the visually impaired and helps them recognize objects surrounding them. This system also includes other features like searching Wikipedia and sending emails. All the features are implemented using a headset that provides voice assistance for an easier lifestyle for the visually impaired. The whole system was developed in the Python programming language.

Blind people face the many problem's in there life. They can't walk without any support. Mostly they are depend on others for help. This will help the visually impaired person to manage day to day activities. Blind reader is an intelligent assistant based on raspberry pi using this device , it is easier for the visually impaired to detect the object .raspberry Pi is used to implement artificial vision using python language on the Open CV platform. This system makes a better life for blind people as it will work with the latest technology and it is meant to the product the visually impaired to live life without any difficulties.
— The main aim of this paper is to implement a system that will help blind person. This system is used by a RASPBERRY PI circuit to provide for the identification of the objects, the first level localization. It also incorporates additional components to provide more refined location and orientation information. The input process is to capture every object around 10m and it is convert into the output processing in voice command which is adopted in Bluetooth headset which is used by blind people using RASPBERRY PI component.
