Abstract
In this project an automatic meter reading system is designed using GSM Technology. The embedded micro controller is interfaced with the GSM Module. This setup is fitted in home. The energy meter is attached to the micro controller. This controller reads the data from the meter output and transfers that data to GSM Module through the serial port. The embedded micro controller has the knowledge of sending message to the system through the GSM module. Another system is placed in EB office, which is the authority office. When they send " unit request " to the microcontroller which is placed in home. Then the unit value is sent to the EB office PC through GSM module. According to the readings, the authority officer will send the information about the bill to the customer. If the customer doesn't pay bill on-time, the power supply to the corresponding home power unit is cut, by sending the command through to the microcontroller. Once the payment of bill is done the power supply is given to the customer. Power management concept is introduced, in which during the restriction mode only limited amount of power supply can be used by the customer.

The present system of energy billing is error prone and also time and labor consuming. Errors get introduced at every stage of energy billing like errors with electro-mechanical meters, human errors while noting down the meter reading, and errors while processing the paid bills and the due bills. The home appliances which consume more power causes an increase in the payment of excessive bills. The remedy for all these problems GPMC(GSM based power meter and control system) is developed which consist of the integration of a single phase Class 1, IEC61036 , standard compliance digital kWh power meter. It will keep track of the meter reading of each day and the reading with the user identification number send it to the user as well as to the electricity department and Electricity eBilling system associated with electricity department will keep the track of each SMS meter reading and the appropriate bill get generated at the last day of the month and the bill is forwarded to user from t...
In present world almost all industrial systems are based on wireless communication, as it has many advantages. The development of a fully Automated Energy Meter which is having capabilities like remote monitoring and controlling of energy meter will lead to transparency in the energy meter reading and billing system. Automatic Meter Reading system (AMR) will continuously monitors the energy meter and sends data on to a server system of service provider through wireless communication where data will be stored as well. Later the bill details will be sent to the customer through SMS. It saves huge human labor. Global System for Mobile communication (GSM) technology is used to communicate between the service provider and the customer. This system avoids the human intervention in power management. If the customer does not pay the bill in time, the user is informed through SMS system using GSM. If still customer does not pay the bill then as per designed late consideration, one alert message will be sent then automatically the power connection is disconnected from the remote server. This developed system provides efficient monitoring of energy meter reading, power control mechanism, avoids the billing error and also reduces the cost of maintenance.

Every management system is trying to make automatic, portable and remote control. This work presents a novel smart energy meter for an automatic and superior metering and billing system. The integration of the Arduino and GSM Short Message Service (SMS) provide the meter reading system with some automatic functions that are predefined. Firstly, we have simulated the project in PROTEUS 8.0 then successfully implemented on the circuit board in laboratory. The proposed energy meter system can incorporate with embedded controller and GSM modem to transmit the data like consumed energy in kWh, generated bill, security services (line Cut/On) over GSM mobile network such as data can be then fed and integrated into existing energy management systems located at power companies or organizations to provide the services among the customers without man-power. Our implemented project is able to provide all required services remotely for metering and billing with high fidelity.
Automatic Energy Meter Reading system (AEMR) regularly read the energy meter and calculate total amount of bill at the set dead line and sends the message to service provider. From energy meter received data i.e. user name, meter ID, total units with paying amount this message maintained at database server which located at service provider department. By using this system save the time required for conventional billing system and minimized human work load. User and service provider both are get correct reading and bill amount. AEMR System can provide message at hourly, daily and monthly by the request. This technology reduced the man power, reading collection time, theft of electricity also avoids late bill payment. By apply this system data security improve. And improve customer and service provider services. Due to this system service provider quickly find out illegal and late bill paying customer by accessing database. So GSM based AEMR system is more efficient that conventional billing system.
The main aim of this project is to monitor and record the power meter reading using GSM Technology. The purpose of this project is to send the information to the mobile by using GSM technology about the power meter reading sends SMS (Short Message Service) messages to designated mobile telephones.
The prime objective of the project is to design a digital energy meter using GSM and card reading technologies for collection, communication and integration of the data. The main objective of ours is to integrate the GSM module and the debit card reading console with the digital energy meter so that the electricity bill delivery and the same bill payment is made easier. In order to integrate the various parts together we must first properly understand the working of the different parts to be integrated together. A brief study is done on the components and the technology which we are going to use in our project.

This project aims to develop a smart energy meter which has many advantages like monitoring and controlling the energy meter at anywhere and at any place. Our project also called as pay first and then use it because here the user first has to pay the bill after that only they can consume the electricity. We know that each user has different kind of load demands and based on it we can recharge in number of units (KWh). The energy we are consuming and based on those pulses from the energy meter, microcontroller decrements the number of units and displays on LCD the remaining units we can use. The load gets disconnected when the units become zero and it is reconnected when the user recharges it. Our project will be very useful for the electricity board and also the user because this project gives the live update about the energy usage of the user through the message. GSM (Global system for mobile communication) will help to send and receive this information to the user. This system helps us to identify the energy losses of the electricity board to a large extent.

The measurement of the energy consumed by residential and commercial buildings by utility provider is important in billing, control, and monitoring of the usage of energy. Traditional metering techniques used for the measurement of energy are not convenient and is prone to different forms of irregularities. These irregularities include meter failure, meter tampering, inaccuracies in billing due to human error, energy theft, and loss of revenue due to corruption, etc. This research study proposed the design and construction of a microcontroller-based electric energy metering system using the Global System for Mobile communication (GSM) network. This system provides a solution to the irregularities posed by the traditional metering technique by allowing the utility provider have access to remote monitoring capabilities, full control over consumer load, and remote power disconnection in the case of energy theft. Electricity is one of the fundamental necessities of human beings, which is commonly used for domestic, industrial and agricultural purposes. There lots of problem in distribution and metering. The wireless meter promise fast and accurate billing system. The traditional electro-mechanical meters, still widely used today are prone to drift over temperature and time as a result of mechanical nature of the components in the meter. The problem worsens further in collecting the meter readings and generating the bill. In this paper, technique for Prepaid and postpaid scheme using SMS has been illustrated. GSM network is used for sending and receiving SMS. KEYWORD GSM Modem, Microcontroller, Server, and Wireless Meter.
