This paper presents efficient methods for rendering image mosaics and ASCII art, emphasizing performance improvements of two orders of magnitude compared to existing approaches. The study discusses the aesthetic and practical implications of image mosaics, which create visually coherent frameworks from individual tiles, as well as the historical context and relevance of ASCII art in modern digital communication. Through experimentation with various algorithms, including a decision tree-based approach, the research underlines the importance of optimizing rendering techniques to enhance artistic expression in constrained environments.
