There has been a rapid growth in recent years in the uses of digital technologies in education, which mirrors the increasing importance of the use of these technologies in the world in general. In mainstream education in many parts of the world, the uses of digital technologies have been constantly increasing and we find ourselves in situations in which all teachers are being expected to demonstrate their ability to use such technologies as part of their teaching toolkit.
Nowadays multimedia exerts an immense attraction over people of all ages. To what extent, however, can multimedia be associated with learning? It was in an attempt to determine, within a critical perspective, the relation between learning processes and the structuring of multimedia, that the present article arose. Nevertheless, only after a deep reflection on the implications of the culture of play, was a satisfactory answer obtained.

The progress in multimedia capture, analysis, and delivery, combined with the rapid adoption of broadband communication, have resulted in educational multimedia systems that have advanced traditional forms of teaching and learning. In addition, new trends in multimedia technology, such as multimedia on handheld devices or advanced approaches for the automatic analysis of multimodal signals, offer novel and exciting opportunities for teaching and learning. However, the question about how multimedia can really make education more exploratory and enjoyable is as yet unanswered, and we are just beginning to understand the real contribution of multimedia to education. This concept note provides a motivation for the ACM Workshop on Educational Multimedia and Multimedia Education. Based on a brief overview of the history of educational multimedia systems and a rough analysis of the current situation, we venture a glimpse into the future and argue that educational multimedia is a vivid and relevant area for research.
Teaching as a practice, presents some challenges. One of these challenges is lack of understanding by the students. Traditional means of teaching has not overcome this hence, the introduction of multimedia system. This paper introduces the use of multimedia system in teaching. It defines the concept, examines some literature on it, and presents how to build it and some of its benefits and challenges. It further presents some recommendations for the effective use of multimedia systems for the development of education.

the Motion picture is destined to revolutionize our educational system and that in a few years it will supplant…the use of textbooks" Thomas Edison, 1922. Computing and communication technology continue to make an ever-increasing impact on all aspects of cognition, education and training, from primary to tertiary and in the growing open and distance learning environment. However, many of us also refrain from using computers for fear of failure. We want to sharpen our computer skills, but are scared to make the effort because we lack those very skills.
