Abstract

Service-Oriented architectures and Service-Oriented Computing are the most recent approaches aiming at facilitating the design and development of applications on distributed systems. The primary goal of this paper is to investigate how the construction of mobile services can benefit from the Service-Oriented paradigm. The paper provides an elucidation of the Service-Oriented architecture. A general discussion of equivalence between service components is then undertaken, in order to enable an analysis of Service-Oriented architectures for mobile services. The paper proceeds with a mapping of existing mobile services on Service-Oriented architectures. The requirements of mobile services, which must be taken into consideration in the Service-Oriented architecture, are identified from a generic model of mobile services. A Service-Oriented architecture supporting mobile services is proposed.

In a competitive world where enterprises have to continually release new and better services, there is a constant need to assimilate new capabilities and extend software applications functionalities. Nowadays these requirements have been translated into mobile environments, making the extension of mobile applications a challenge from the scalability perspective. In this paper, a mobile and flexible software architecture is presented. It allows the integration of third party mobile services to the developed platform, making the extension of a mobile application a dynamic task. By doing so, users can consume a service from their mobile devices through a dynamic user interface. This flexible architecture permits the aggregation of services without having to modify the mobile system, and therefore, it increases the application scalability and practicality in terms of its deployment and maintenance.

Mobile Applications and Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) are two aspects of Computer Science which offer to Enterprise Information Systems (EIS) more agility and flexibility in order to follow the constant evolution of enterprises business. However, the inadequacy of hardware resources and wireless network availability and bandwidth constitutes a major constraint when developing any mobile application. The challenge is exacerbated for developers when trying to integrate these applications with EIS which are naturally heavier. This document presents this integration in the context of an EIS built on SOA. Added to the basic tools needed for local data storage and communication with the server, a mediator (on the device) is introduced to facilitate interactions between the application and the service. We also study reasons which lead us to the choice of implementing a gateway on the server, in order to facilitate the service consumption.

Given the importance of clients in service-oriented computing, and the ongoing evolution of distributed system realization technologies from client/service architectures, through distributed-object and service-oriented architectures to cloud computing, there is a growing need to lower the complexities and barriers involved in the development of client applications. These range from large scale business applications and business processes to laptop programs and small "apps" on mobile devices. In this paper we present a unified conceptual framework in which the basic concerns and viewpoints relevant for building clients of service-oriented, distributed systems can be expressed and related to one another in a platform-independent, non-proprietary way. The basic concerns used to structure the framework are the level of abstraction at which a system is represented and the roles from which the software entities of a distributed system are viewed. Using the various concepts and models supported in the framework it is possible to customize and simplify each client developer's view and to simplify the way in which service providers develop and maintain their services. This paper provides an overview of the framework's foundations and concepts. We also present the vision behind this conceptual framework and present a small example to show how the models contained in the framework are applied in practice.

Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) is a promising approach for designing and developing mobile applications. However, SOA concepts need to be combined with mobile principles to fully accommodate their requirements. Previously, a metamodel called Ambient-SoaML has been defined, which combines the Service Oriented Architecture Modeling Language (SoaML) and Mobile Ambients concepts inspired from Ambient Calculus. In this paper, a modeling tool that supports designing service oriented architecture of mobile systems based on Ambient-SoaML is presented. The tool allows users to graphically design Ambient-SoaML architectures and ensures that they are correctly built. The tool is an eclipse plug-in and has been implemented following Model Driven Architecture (MDA) principles and associated technologies. A running example is used to illustrate the features of the tool.

This research aims to apply Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) to mobile applications to improve the flexibility, interoperability, and scalability of the system. SOA is an approach that enables better integration between different components in an application architecture. Mobile applications, as an integral part of everyday life, require high flexibility and adaptability to changing user needs. The research method used involves application requirements analysis, SOA architecture design, and implementation on an existing mobile application. Through the implementation of SOA, resource management and service distribution become more efficient, making it easy to add or change features without affecting the entire system. Test results show improved application performance and responsiveness, along with the ability to easily integrate services from multiple sources. In addition, the SOA architecture provides flexibility in the development and maintenance of mobile applications, accelerating the development process and minimizing the impact of changes. This research contributes to the development of mobile applications by introducing the SOA approach as an architectural foundation. The implementation of SOA in mobile applications is expected to guide developers in creating systems that are more resilient, adaptive, and easy to integrate with rapidly evolving software environments.

Modeling Service Oriented Architectures of Mobile Applications by Extending SoaML with Ambients

Mobile applications need to dynamically adapt to requirements of new environments (or locations) as users and their devices continuously move. Service oriented architecture (SOA) is a recent approach for designing and developing open and distributed systems. However, SOA has to be extended in order to fully accommodate the requirements of mobile services. This paper presents an approach called AmbientSoaML, which introduces ambients in service oriented architecture modeling language (SoaML) proposed by the OMG in order to allow its models to include mobility primitives. Ambients are considered to be the service providers and the service consumers for providing/consuming mobility services. They also represent the boundaries that services have to cross when moving from one location to another. This paper demonstrates the use of SoaML for modeling SOA of a mobile application in order to motivate the problem our research purports to address.

Proposal to Improve Mobility in Service Oriented Architecture

Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) is a standard to implement and design applications. It is a channel of communication between service consumer (SC) and service provider (SP). SP offers a service and SC uses a service. Mobile web service verifier component, of SOA architecture, matches best service that is called. Mobile web service verifier component finds a best match of particular service in SP if it is available by the SP. Therefore, there is a pressing need to develop a component that can create a service if it is not found by mobile web service verifier component. This problem is addressed by proposing a new component for SOA architecture called service upgrade (SU) to increase and improve the service creation speed and satisfy SC and SP needs. The questionnaire is used as a research design to evaluate the proposed solution by providing qualitative data. The results show that the majority of respondents are in favor of the proposed solution. It is anticipated that the proposed solution will cater the industrial problem in hand.
