Outline

Patronage and corruption in ancient Egypt

Abstract

It is still a common practice nowadays in the egyptological scholarly discourse to take at face value the statements of prominent ancient sources, which involves a naïve perception that provides misleading interpretations that do little justice to an ancient reality, that also had a darker side that should not be ignored. Otherwise, we will be neglecting aspects of that reality that also have relevance if we wish to understand it in all aspects of its complex everyday variety.
