Outline

Adnominal l-Participles in Early Modern Bulgarian

Abstract

An analysis of the rare examples of the use of l-participle/adjective as a non-finite form in adnominal phrases in the damaskini and similar sources from 17th-19th century Bulgaria and Macedonia. The participles is used mostly on place of Church Slavonic present active (ǫšt-) participles, and in some sources it competes with the passive (n/t-) participle as well. In earlier stages of the dialects underlying damaskini, the l-participle likely was not replaced by the v-participle as the general past active form, as in the varieties underlying OCS canon. Presented at the conference "33. JungslavistInnen Treffen" in Freiburg, 18.09.2025.
