DETERMINATION OF NOISE LEVEL IN MAGURA MUNICIPALITY, BANGLADESH

Abstract

Noise pollution has been recognized as united of the foremost of the trepidations that impact the standard of life in urban areas across the world. The study aimed to judge the noise pollution level of Magura Municipality. The noise levels were measured at five critical zones with three replications. The zones were road traffic, educational, commercial, residential and hospital. The noise levels were measured by using Sound Level Meter from 8.0 am to 10.0 pm at two minutes interval. The results were compared with national and international standards. The applied mathematical analysis was performed by descriptive statistics, sound pollution indices, equivalent sound level L eq and noise pollution level L np . The noise pollution level at majority of areas was over the national and international standards and were remarked as road traffic> educational> commercial> residential> hospital. The L np levels were107.1 dB in road traffic zone, 99.44 dB in educational zone, 96.04 dB in commercial zone, 91.05 dB in residential zone and 95.34 dB in hospital zone. The relocation of noisy areas was needed for achieving the proper condition.
