Keyboard Instrument, a bridge between Europe and Latin America

2024, CIMCIM 2024 Annual Conference Mexico

Abstract

The influence of keyboard instruments on cultural and religious dynamics during the European conquest of Latin America was profound. The surviving harpsichords and clavichords from the 16th to 18th centuries exemplify a fusion of European origins and local craftsmanship. Historical records substantiate the presence and exchange of these instruments between Europe and Latin America, underscoring a rich bidirectional musical and cultural interaction.
