Abstract
National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 represents a transformative shift in the Indian education system, advocating a multidisciplinary approach to foster holistic development and adaptability among students. This study explores the theoretical underpinnings of this approach, drawing from established educational philosophies, such as constructivism, pragmatism, humanism, and interdisciplinary learning. Utilizing authentic sources and secondary data, this study examines how NEP 2020 aligns with global best practices and their implications for higher education, skill development, and employment. The analysis highlights the cognitive, social, and professional benefits of integrating multiple disciplines and demonstrates how such an approach enhances critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and innovation. The study also identified key challenges in implementation, such as curriculum restructuring, faculty preparedness, and resource allocation. This paper concludes with strategic recommendations to effectively integrate multidisciplinary education within the NEP 2020 framework, ensuring its long-term success in reshaping the educational landscape.

National Education Policy 2020 is the education policy in which special emphasis has been given on promoting the use of technology to facilitate education, as well as encouraging creative thinking, logical judgment, the art of continuous learning and the spirit of innovation in students. This education policy lays the special emphasis on the development of the creative abilities inherent in every individual. According to this education policy, to bring the idea of holistic and multidisciplinary education to the real ground, the flexible and innovative curricula of all higher educational institutions will include credit-based curriculum and areas of community engagement and service, environmental education and value education etc. The main aim of education will be to develop all the capabilities of man in an integrated manner. In fact, The National Education Policy, 2020 is based on the basic pillars of easy access, equality, quality and accountability for all and aims at making schools and colleges suitable for the needs of the 21st century and gives special emphasis and importance on holistic and multidisciplinary education.
What should be the Wisdom of CEO of a Global University? Academic Leadership presently requires a distinct skill to sail through the intricacies of higher education in India. The Higher Education Sector is experiencing gap between scholarly expertise and impactful leadership. The future readiness road map towards India becoming a Global Study Destination is being continually crafted by bringing in innovative restructuring in the India's Education System. The challenge is how to Globalize the Diverse Education Systems in India? How India can become a hub for Global Education? India is invariably battling to regain its legacy status of Vishwa Guru. The universally transforming education, learning & teaching is now a subject of Global Quality Standards. The strategy "Internationalization at Home" will open avenues to promote Indian Ethos amidst the Global Culture. The New Education Policy 2020, introduced on July 29, 2020, represents the first major education policy of the 21st century. In a developing country like India, higher education plays a vital role in fostering human development. Since India's independence, its higher education sector has expanded significantly, contributing to the nation's growth by providing specialized knowledge and skills. This study examines the impact of NEP 2020 on the higher education system and highlights the challenges and issues currently faced by this sector in India. Utilizing secondary data from journals, books, reports, websites, and newspapers, the study employs descriptive analysis aligned with its objectives. NEP 2020 aims to modernize the higher education system in India and is expected to bring substantial advancements. With its progressive approach and awareness of the current socioeconomic context, NEP 2020 has the potential to transform India into a global educational hub by 2030, provided it is effectively implemented.
A well-defined, well-planned and progressive education policy is a must for every country because education is the cornerstone of economic and social progress. Taking into account their respective traditions and culture, different countries adopt varied education systems. The National Education Policy (NEP) was approved by the Union Cabinet of India on July 28th, 2020. After a gap of 34 years, the Indian government consolidated feedback from 2.5 lakh village-level stakeholders to two national parliamentary level committees, over more than 50 months of consultations and workshops. The National Education Policy (NEP)-2020 will bring flexibility to the curriculum through a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approach, a new assessment process, resource empowerment, multiple exit options, and encouraging internationalization. Adopting an open curriculum with transdisciplinary course patterns, including flexibility in electives, has led to progress in skill development, holistic development, community engagement, technological integration, environmental education, and value-based education. Ranking and accreditation will have a significant impact on the quality of education and research. National Education Policy 2020, announced by the Government of India on July 29, 2020, revolves around the flexible, practical, multidisciplinary, multilinguistic education for all, at all levels, by implementing many reforms, interventions and a nationwide institutional set up. This study aims to review different aspects of the policy in comprehensive manner and analyse its impact. It's designed as descriptive study of the policy based on qualitative analysis of the secondary data. The study finds that NEP is a long tenure policy that has the potential to impact every individual and household's life. If implemented rightly, it will change the status of India in global competitiveness and capability building. The study will be particularly helpful to the students, researchers, academicians and professionals seeking an analytical comprehensive summary of the National Education Policy 2020.
