This study addresses the high rates of stillbirths and neonatal deaths in developing countries due to inadequate monitoring during labor. It proposes the development of an affordable fetal and neonatal heart rate monitor tailored for low-resource settings. The device, which can measure heart rates using both abdominal ECG and acoustic recording, aims to provide continuous monitoring, clinician alerts, and efficient signal analysis to improve patient outcomes. Initial testing shows promise in providing reliable heart rate data, with the device designed to enhance the skills of healthcare workers and reduce intrapartum-related fatalities.
