Future Context-aware Pervasive Learning Environment: Smart Campus

2007, International Conference on Integration of Information …

Abstract

Information technology has changed a lot the way of learning and specially, it has affected the distance learning. The learning and teaching technologies used in the past are vanishing now as the future seamless technologies (pervasive computing) are gaining much popularity and have proved themselves as the best supporting technologies to human beings in the daily life. The nature of this trend is evident in the multitude of definitions of seamless learning environment i.e. long distance learning etc. In this technological era the definition of distance learning has been changed as "the distance learning is the delivery of information/instruction to the right group at the right time in the right place, so the only pervasive computing provides such kind of services i.e. service of any type, by any vendor, at any time, any where and are even accessed by any operator at any platform. Another associated attribute of such an environment is the context-awareness, which is the ultimate for creating such a dynamic integrated system for learning. In this paper we have proposed a novel design of interactive pervasive learning environment. The focus is made on interaction, reliability, performance efficiency and precision of the applications/knowledge to be used in fulfilling the user request regarding learning. The proposed solution is actually a service oriented framework in which data mining is used for knowledge discovery, context is identified by using more precise approach, and then automatic service discovery, activation and execution takes place to facilitate the user in pervasive learning environment.
