The job of the school leader is becoming very difficult. During a working day, he has to face a variety of challenges and to find solutions for many problems of all kinds. The concerns and interests of parents, teachers and district administration do not always coincide. (Johnson, 1976: 80). On the other hand, public schools do not select the pupils who will attend. (Ibid) The children community in school is growing diverse due to their family origins which have different and unique structures, and to demographic movements. A diverse community represents diverse demands. The school leader shall be the manager and the teacher, the planner and the implementer, the school advocate and its critique, so as to be committed and able to perform its responsibilities (Pierce & Stapleton, 2002), comply with the requirements of DAR and MAS and find the right balance between different stakeholders. There are many complex roles a leader shall take which means assuming many accountability, however, not always justified by the salary. But, our main concern is to save the public schools, and in order to be able to compile such a mission, we need a new kind of leadership, visionary, able to understand what will happen to school at 5 to 10 years following, to identify problems and to know how to respond the needs in change of the community (Pierce & Stapleton, 2002). This essay is a review of key issues, trends and current policy in Albanian school leadership at pre-university education system during 1995-2012.

A series of studies in the literature on educational leadership and school effectiveness have placed school leadership at the center of school effectiveness and school improvement. This research seeks to explore the perceptions of a small number of principals regarding their role in relation to school leadership and school effectiveness. Taking a qualitative approach, data was collected through semi-structured interviews with the principals of A-accredited schools located on Lombok Island, Indonesia. The research was guided by three research questions: What is the perception of school principals’ on their role as school leaders and do how they undertake it in practice? How is school effectiveness understood by the principals? What is the relationship of their role to school effectiveness? Several limitations were faced in this study. The first is that socio-economic status (SES) was not considered, as it only examined principals from A-accredited schools and did not look into B and C-accredited schools as well. Furthermore, it did not include teachers, students and parents as participants who experience the effectiveness of the school. The research suggests that firstly, the interrelation between a principal’s perception and their role strongly influences effectiveness within the school. Secondly, it is suggested that efforts to create school effectiveness have been linked with ideas of democratic leadership, strong academic emphasis, and the strong involvement of teachers, staff and students within the school context, and the principals had a collegiate management style and shared responsibilities. These findings enable suggestions for improvement, and offer a recommendation to develop a national policy for principals which can also be used by the higher education institutions to develop training and a framework for principals to continue their professional development in Indonesia.

Educational leadership may be a significant role in determining a school's performance. The study determined to correlate administrators’ leadership practices and the teachers’ performance in the Division of Bukidnon. It also assessed the significant correlation between teachers’ performance and leadership practices of the school administrators under the School-Based Management (SBM). Leadership means the process of influencing group activities in the context of formulating and achieving organizational goals. There are two things that characterize leaders in carrying out achievements, namely openness and willingness to serve. Leadership always gives an interesting impression because leadership requires a style and attitude that is appropriate to the organizational climate and educational unit where this cannot be separated from performance. Organizational performance is the result obtained by an organization, whether the organization is profit centric or non-profit centric, which is produced over a period of time and is work performance that can be measured in relation to the ability and strength of the organization as a whole to achieve organizational goals. This research aims to describe the leadership style of school principals and organizational performance in improving the quality of education at MI Ma'arif NU Teluk Purwokerto Indonesia. This research is a qualitative descriptive type of research. The results of the research show that in improving the quality of education, MI Ma'arif NU Teluk has attempted to optimize teacher performance which is supported by the leadership of the school principal through strengthening the cognitive, psychomotor and affective competencies of teachers and supported by the existence of a teacher certification program.
