Abstract
Communication is a very important area of research in the present era. Expansion of globalization and reduction in the cost of electronic devices has made communication very effective. A large number of researchers from academics and industries are involved in the research on communication and networks. Any novel idea has to be verified on the simulator. A number of simulators are available for network simulations such as Network Simulator (NS2 and NS3), OPNET, NetSim, OMNeT++, REAL, J-Sim and QualNet. NS is an open-source simulation tool that runs on Linux. It is a discreet event simulator for networking research and provides substantial support for simulation of routing, multicast and IP protocols. This chapter provides an overview of NS in a much simpler way. At the completion of this chapter readers will be able to write tcl script to simulate a scenario of network. Every simulation on NS generates a huge trace file; the study of this can be done with the help of AWK script.

— In the network research area, establishing of network in a real time scenario is very difficult. A single test bed takes a large amount of time and cost. So implementation of a whole network in real world is not easily possible and very costly to. The simulator helps the network developer to check whether the network is able to work in the real time. Thus both the time and cost of testing the functionality of network have been reduced and implementations are made easy. In this paper, we introduce the main features of different simulator and consider their advantages and disadvantages. With the advancement of technology and growth in the wireless industry over time, there seems to be a major change every few years and the recent advancement is Wi-Fi 802.11ac. People are more inclined to use the wireless network within the organisations, campuses and offices. The recent advancement is the fifth generation of Wi-Fi (802.11ac) which has extended the benefits of the previous Wi-Fi (802.11n) with increase in data rate, channel bandwidth, and is more scalable and also the operating frequency. The organisations which started in the late 2012 and early 2013 have a very good chance of deploying these new technologies without any overhead cost or just a minimum amount when compared to other organisations. The brief overview of computer networks has been given in chapter-1 along with the OSI model, network types and topologies. The chapter-2 will discuss the wireless network in detail and their standards. As every network requires security for its proper functioning, it also has to maintain the network availability. The security concerns and types of DoS attacks that can affect the network along with some strategies of prevent such attacks have been discussed in chapter-3. Chapter-4 will briefly illustrate the types of network simulators which are used to simulate a network. The main aim of the project is simulate a wireless network for a small and a medium sized office network and to find the denial of service point which is illustrated in the Chapters-5 and 6 show the simulation of the wireless network with mobile stations and server and wireless network with fixed workstations and server respectively.

Ns-2 and its successor ns-3 are discrete-event simulators. Ns-3 is still under development, but offers some interesting characteristics for developers while ns-2 still has a big user base. This paper remarks current differences between both tools from developers point of view. Leaving performance and resources consumption aside, technical issues described in the present paper might help to choose one or another alternative depending of simulation and project management requirements.

NS-2 is a tool to simulate networks and events that occur per packet sequentially based on time and are widely used in the research field. NS-2 comes with NAM (Network Animator) that produces a visual representation it also supports several simulation protocols. The network can be tested end-to-end. This test includes data transmission, delay, jitter, packet-loss ratio and throughput. The Performance Analysis simulates a virtual network and tests for transport layer protocols at the same time with variable data and analyzes simulation results based on the network simulator NS-2.

The report shows great promise for users who suffer from wasting time in searching. Unfortunately, there isn't enough research that looks at the increase in academic performance due to searching. This project will attempt to design networks in Network Simulators 2 (NS2) mathematical calculations that can be used in NS2 Ubuntu Program and will attempt to answer the following question: Will using NS2 in conjunction with an academic networks (catered towards students in classroom) result in improvements in academic performance in the classroom? This paper will show many types of networks using nodes through links between them.
A new and simple Python network simulator Nessi is described in this paper. While other simulators focus on minimizing the simulation time, Nessi tries to minimize the development time and the difficulties to implement a new simulation model. As such, it is mainly oriented toward educational use, where it enables students to implement or modify simulation models of protocols with minimal overhead. A second application of Nessi is for verification and performance evaluation of new protocols, where it allows the developer to easily explore different options.
