Slavery and Emancipation in the Americas (Graduate, Spring 2015)

The course "Slavery and Emancipation in the Americas" offers a comparative examination of the history of slavery and its enduring impact on global politics, economics, and culture. Through two guiding questions—how slavery began, was sustained, and ultimately ended, as well as its centrality to the development of the modern Western world—the course encourages critical engagement and discussion among students. The syllabus outlines requirements for active participation, mini-presentations, and office hours for individual support, while emphasizing the importance of understanding slavery within a transnational context across the Americas.
