Information and Knowledge Organisation in Digital Humanities, 2021

Information and Knowledge Organisation explores the role of knowledge organisation in the digital humanities. By focussing on how information is described, represented and organised in both research and practice, this work furthers the transdisciplinary nature of digital humanities. Including contributions from Asia, Australia, Europe, North America and the Middle East, the volume explores the potential uses of, and challenges involved in, applying the organisation of information and knowledge in the various areas of Digital Humanities. With a particular focus on the digital worlds of cultural heritage collections, the book also includes chapters that focus on machine learning, knowledge graphs, text analysis, text annotations and network analysis. Other topics covered include: semantic technologies, conceptual schemas and data augmentation, digital scholarly editing, metadata creation, browsing, visualisation and relevance ranking. Most importantly, perhaps, the book provides a starting point for discussions about the impact of information and knowledge organisation and related tools on the methodologies used in the Digital Humanities field. Information and Knowledge Organisation is intended for use by researchers, students and professionals interested in the role information and knowledge organisation plays in the Digital Humanities. A case study of DARIAH-DE and MWW <br> MWW stands for three institutions, united by more than 500 years of German and European ideas, literature and culture – and since 2013 by a research association.1 The German Literature Archive Marbach, the Klassik Stiftung Weimar and the Herzog August Library Wolfenbüttel collect, preserve and provide access to sources that are crucial to the study of German literary and intellectual tradition. Digital Scholarship in the Humanities, 2015

Research data in the humanities needs to be sustainable, and access to digital resources must be possible over a long period. Only if these prerequisites are fulfilled can research data be used as a source for other projects. In addition, reliability is a fundamental requirement so that digital sources can be cited, reused, and quoted. To address this problem, we present our solution: the Data and Service Center for the Humanities located in Switzerland. The centralized infrastructure is based on flexible and extendable software that is in turn reliant on modern technologies. Such an approach allows for the straightforward migration of existing research project databases with limited life spans in the humanities. We will demonstrate the basic concepts behind this proposed solution and our first experiences in the application thereof.

This panel will convene participants from a range of roles and institutions to build on previous work in infrastructures of digital humanities: the organizational and structural aspects of the field responsible for collaboration, partnership, training and support, access, preservation, sustainability, and more. Information professionals play a key role in these infrastructures, from technical expertise to project management to training and support for methods and tools. Panelists from faculty, centers and institutes, and academic and digital libraries will address issues of capacity building, disciplinarity, and labor across various settings.

The term 'Digital Humanities' is being referred to more and more, as the crossroad of information technology and traditional humanities research. At its core, Digital Humanities (or DH) is an emerging, interdisciplinary movement which looks to enhance and to redefine traditional humanities scholarship through digital means. The term may be defined as the application of information technology to analyze humanities as well as many interdisciplinary subjects. Computer assisted analysis allows researchers to gather and analyze a large amount of data, which would otherwise be time consuming for human work. Text mining in the study of literature is one of the most popular computer applications for humanities research. DH Conference Papers, 2009 touched many topics related to Libraries like metadata, XML, digital archives and many others. DH projects involve archival collections, copyright, information organization, emerging technologies and progressive ideas about the role of text(s) in society, all potential areas of expertise within the field of librarianship. Four kinds of expertise required for DH projects: domain (subject), analytical, data management, and project management expertise. While librarians often have subject and project management experience, they may need to supplement their knowledge in other areas. The main objectives of the work include presenting an overview of Digital Humanities; to find out the role of Librarians in DH; and to discuss the skills required to keeping up with DH from the Librarian's point of view.

The study examines the significance of the document, as well as its functions in the reference bibliographic, informational, and cultural-historical significance. The origin of the term "document" is traced, as well as the types of documents and their meaning and main functions for the benefit of the society and the government of the country. The second part of the study examines the problems of modern archiving in Bulgaria. It presents the guidelines in which the archival activity should be developed, such as the need for qualified personnel to accelerate the digitization processes. Classifying and categorizing the activities that comprise the digital humanities (DH) has been a longstanding area of interest for many practitioners in this field, fueled by ongoing attempts to define the field both within the academic and public sphere. Several European initiatives are currently shaping advanced research infrastructures that would benefit from an implementation of a suiting taxonomy. Therefore, new humanities and information science collaborations have been formed to provide a service that meets their needs. This working paper presents the transformation of the Taxonomy of Digital Research Activities in the Humanities (TaDiRAH) in order to make it machine-readable and become a formalized taxonomy.
