Need of Privacy Preservation in Cloud Databases 1

At present the mankind are progressively relying more on a number of online storage stores to back up our data or for using it in real time which gives an anywhere, anytime access. All these services bring with it, concerns of security and privacy weaknesses for all the services provided by them since the user"s data are stored and maintained out of user"s premises. This paper portrays the various issues associated to privacy while storing the user"s data on third party service providers, which is more commonly termed as cloud service. Cloud computing refers to the fundamental infrastructure for an up-coming model of service provision that has the benefit of dropping cost by sharing computing and storage resources, united with an on-demand provisioning mechanism depending on a pay-per-use business model. Without appropriate security and privacy solutions designed for clouds this computing paradigm could become a huge failure. There is a lot of research being made to spot out the issues with these cloud service providers and cloud security in general. This paper is on regard of one of the key issue -privacy that occur in the context of cloud computing and analyze the various works being done to solve the issues in privacy and thus to ensure privacy to outsourced data on cloud storage.

In the era of cloud computing, many cloud service providers like Amazon, Microsoft, Google, etc are offering cloud storage as a service. We can migrate our data to the storage offered by them and can retrieve it back at any point of time or can share it with other people by making it available publicly thought Internet. Since the size of the data stored in storage clouds could be very huge, searching and retrieving a desired data by maintaining its privacy is one of the important issues. In this paper, we present a new data storage organization for storage clouds which would be helpful for faster data lookup through privacy preservation.

Cloud computing is a recent trend of technology that aims to provide unlimited, on-demand, elastic computing and data storage resources. In this context, cloud services decrease the need for local data storage and the infrastructure costs. However, hosting confidential data at a cloud storage service requires the transfer of control of the data to a semi-trusted external provider. Therefore, data confidentiality is the top concern from the cloud issues list. Recently, three main approaches have been introduced to ensure data confidentiality in cloud services: data encryption; combination of encryption and fragmentation; and fragmentation. In this paper, we present i-OBJECT, a new approach to preserve data confidentiality in cloud services. The proposed mechanism uses information decomposition to split data into unrecognizable parts and store them in different cloud service providers. Besides, i-OBJECT is a flexible mechanism since it can be used alone or together with other previously approaches in order to increase the data confidentiality level. Thus, a user may trade performance or data utility for a potential increase in the degree of data confidentiality. Experimental results show the potential efficiency of the proposed approach.

Due to the rapid advances in the networking technologies and the continued growth of the internet have triggered a new trend of cloud computing towards outsourcing data to the cloud service providers. The ever cheaper and most powerful database as a service (DaaS) computing paradigm that enables organizations to minimize their operational cost in a way that they no longer need to purchase infrastructure and hire human resources. Data outsourcing has become a trend in the information technology industry because it offers scalability to the enormous amount of digital content stored and generated on a daily basis by individuals and corporations. Of significance, is the security and privacy of the data outsourced to cloud servers when at rest and on transit. This challenge can be addressed by encrypting data before outsourcing in other to insure its privacy from internal and external intruders. Encryption implies a sacrifice of functionality for security. Querying encrypted data is performed by decrypting the entire data before retrieval. This leads to performance degradation. While several architectures, techniques and tools have been proffered to ensure that security and performance are balanced and optimized, each of these approaches has its limitations. We propose a novel framework based on the hash map principle, that enhances the security and performance of cloud database by reducing client SQL query response time on encrypted data without limiting the type of queries performed or compromising the security of data. Also, a performance analysis of the traditional method as compared with the proposed method is done using varying number of records.

In recent the most of the companies are using the cloud to store their huge database. Cloud provides the large space for storage. Cloud is nothing but the pay-as-you-go is used as the economical aspect of privacy-preserving. Privacy for this data is provided by encryption of the data. But there are chances of attack so the violence of the data is possible. For data protection the anonymization and then encryption of data is held on. But whenever the user tries to re-access the data, it should be decrypted. At every time of accessing the encryption and the decryption of the data should be done, which increases the cost of the privacy-preservation also it is the time consuming process as the large number of keys used for encryption and decryption. To reduce this cost of privacy-preservation the privacy leakage constraint is used in which the problem is divided in subproblems and then finding the solution. Then the data is divided into the intermediate datasets. The threshold value is used to privacy-preservation which gives the low cost privacy-preservation. Here the privacy-preserving cost reducing heuristic algorithm is useful for the privacy leakage.

Its major characteristics include the pay-per-use pricing model, where users pay only for the resources they consume with no upfront cost for hardware/software infrastructures, and the capability of providing scalable and unlimited storage and computation resources to meet changing business needs of enterprises with minimal management overhead [1]. The cloud, however, presents a major limitation to enterprises and individuals who move to public clouds: they lose control over the systems that manage their data and applications, leading to increased security and privacy concerns [2,3,4].

Recently, cloud computing became an essential part of most IT strategies. However, security and privacy issues are still the two main concerns that limit the widespread use of cloud services since the data is stored in unknown locations and retrieval of data (or part of it) may involve disclosure of sensitive data to unauthorized parties. Many techniques have been proposed to handle this problem, which is known as Privacy-Preserving Data Retrieval (PPDR). These techniques attempt to minimize the sensitive data that needs to be revealed. However, revealing any data to an unauthorized party breaks the security and privacy concepts and also may decrease the efficiency of the data retrieval. In this paper, different requirements are defined to satisfy a high level of security and privacy in a PPDR system. Moreover, a technique that uses anonymous query authentication and multi-server settings is proposed. The technique provides an efficient ranking-based data retrieval by using weighted Term Frequency-Inverse Document Frequency (TF-IDF) vectors.
