Received a Ph.D. from Vladimir State University (Russia) in 2012 and now a Leading Researcher and Associate Professor at Vladimir State University, in the Department of Functional and Constructional Materials Technology. Founder & CEO of Scientific and Technological Centre "Composite", a scientific and technological center, which was founded in 2018. The main areas of investigation include the theory and technology of cast metal matrix composites. Research interests also include thermodynamic simulation and its application to light alloys design, zinc antifriction alloys, and composites.
Delivered over 100 viva-voce presentations in Russia and abroad and published more than 200 contributions over the last ten years, over 60 of which are in peer-reviewed international and national journals. Several papers have appeared in various high-impact journals, including the Journal of Alloys and Compounds (Elsevier), Nanomaterials (MDPI), Ceramics International (Elsevier), Metals (MDPI), and many others. Technical developments and inventions are protected by 17 patents. In particular, developed and patented an innovative method for producing cast metal matrix composites by liquid-phase reaction synthesis.
A recognized expert, elected as a Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, Member of the Associazione Italiana di Metallurgia, International Association of Engineers, World Association for Online Education, International Association of Innovation Professionals, and many other reputable professional societies.
Invited to speak at multiple professional meetings in Europe, including METAL in 2013, 2017, and 2018 in the Czech Republic, “Foundry” in 2014, 2016, and 2017 in Bulgaria, World Foundry Congress in 2018 in Poland, and many others. A member of Scientific Committees of major international events, such as MPCPE 2020 (Russia), TPAP 2020 (China), ICAMS 2020 (India), etc.
Recognized as a key community leader and researcher and have received numerous awards for several achievements. Among these recent awards are the Winner’s Diploma of the all-Russian contest “Golden Names of Higher Education” in 2019, Diploma of Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences in 2019, and the prestigious “Best Scientific Paper” award of the World Foundry Organization in 2018.

Working bodies of agricultural machinery and equipment are operated in harsh conditions. Mulching... more Working bodies of agricultural machinery and equipment are operated in harsh conditions. Mulching cutters shred various types of vegetation, including stumps, trees, bushes, their roots and mix wood residues with soil, which acts as an abrasive. Therefore, great attention is paid to the scientifically based selection of materials for the manufacture of the working parts of the mulching cutter. This study presents a systematic analysis of the operating conditions and design features of the working parts of the mulching cutter. The results of chemical and metallographic analysis, and hardness measurements of materials used for parts that make up the mulching cutter’s working body, as well as for obtaining permanent connections between structural elements, are given. Practical recommendations for material selection that meet the required operational characteristics of the working parts in the operating conditions have been formulated.

The effect of the complex ligature with nickel and REM (Ce, La) aluminides on the structure forma... more The effect of the complex ligature with nickel and REM (Ce, La) aluminides on the structure formation, the nature of the distribution of the elements, and the microhardness of the structural constituents of Al-5 wt.% Cu aluminum alloy were investigated. On the example of microalloying of the Al-5 wt.% Cu alloy with a master alloy containing Ni and REM (Ce, La) aluminides it was shown that a redistribution of Al and Cu occurs in α-solid solution and eutectic. This is reflected in the refinement of α-solid solution and eutectic at 0.15 wt.% of the master alloy addition and, accordingly, increases the microhardness of α-solid solution by 100 MPa and eutectic by 125 MPa.

Improvement and stabilization of the electrochemical properties of zinc alloys during casting

The main reasons for the appearance of electrochemical heterogeneity of cast sacrificial galvanic... more The main reasons for the appearance of electrochemical heterogeneity of cast sacrificial galvanic anodic alloys in the "metal-electrolyte" system are internal factors related to the nature of the metal, its composition, structure, etc. Obviously, when developing the technology for manufacturing of cast anodes, special attention should be paid to ensuring the structural homogeneity of the alloys. The main role in the formation of the structure and basic properties of cast anodes is played by thermal processes that affect the conditions for solidification of the melt in the mould. The results of studies of the structure and basic electrochemical properties of cast zinc sacrificial alloys (ZSA) depending on the cooling conditions are presented in this paper. The analysis of the temperature fields of the solidifying metal (when the metal is cooled) and the shape (when the mould is heated) at different cooling intensities has made it possible to optimize the duration of the casting cycle. This takes into account the cooling conditions determined by the initial temperature of the mould, which ensures a homogeneous structure and stable electrochemical properties of the material over the entire thickness of the tread. For example, it is established that for the casting of zinc alloys treads weighing 18 kg, the temperature of the mould before casting should be 120-160°C. In these conditions, the necessary quality of cast sacrificial anodic alloys is achieved: Current Capacity-Efficiency 93-96%; Corrosion Potential-E c = 815-820 mV vs. SHE. The required duration of the casting cycle is 10-14 min. Similar data was obtained for sacrificial anodes of various shapes and sizes. Based on the results of studies of the thermal interaction of zinc anodes with a casting mould (sandy-argillaceous, cast iron and steel water-cooled) using numerical simulation methods, the expediency of casting anodes into water-cooled moulds is provided, providing the most favorable conditions for heat removal and obtaining a homogeneous structure of cast treads. Based on the results obtained, a technology has been developed for casting zinc anodes of various sizes, which provides high and stable electrochemical properties.

A thermodynamic assessment of the effect of alloying elements (Si, Mg, Cu, Ti) on phase formation... more A thermodynamic assessment of the effect of alloying elements (Si, Mg, Cu, Ti) on phase formation processes during the production and liquid-phase processing of cast aluminum matrix composite materials with exogenous reinforcement (Al–SiC, Al–B4C) was carried out. It was shown that without suppressing Al–Si–C and Al4C3 carbide formation in the range of carbon concentrations from 0 to 4.5 wt.%, the equilibrium phase composition of Al–SiC composites in the solid state at 423 to 575 °C lies in the (Al) + Si + Al4SiC4 three-phase region, and the Al4SiC4 ternary carbide is replaced by the Al8SiC7 compound at a temperature below 423 °C. SiC and B4C phases in Al–SiC–Cu and Al–B4C–Cu systems are stable in the entire crystallization range and do not interact with aluminum or copper. The AA 511 alloy of the Al–Mg–Si system was used as an example to demonstrate that aluminum melt ... more The AA 511 alloy of the Al–Mg–Si system was used as an example to demonstrate that aluminum melt irradiation with nanosecond electromagnetic pulses (NEPs) leads to a significant change in the nature of structure formation during crystallization. It was found that an increase in the frequency of melt irradiation with NEPs is accompanied by the refinement of the alloy structural components, while the greatest grain size reduction of the α-solid solution and intergranular inclusions of the eutectic Mg2Si phase is observed at a NEPs frequency f = 1000 Hz. An increase in the NEPs frequency leads to a significant increase in the concentration of magnesium in the α-solid solution and the fragmentation of Mg2Si phase intergranular inclusions, which is released in the form of compact isolated inclusions when the melt is irradiated at a frequency of 1000 Hz. The lack of understanding as to the nature of interfacial interaction between reinforcing particl... more The lack of understanding as to the nature of interfacial interaction between reinforcing particles and the matrix alloy during repeated remelting of cast composite materials is one of the problems hindering the expansion of their industrial application. This research is aimed at establishing the effect of repeated remelting of AK12 + 10 vol.% SiC aluminum matrix composites on the retention and chemical stability of silicon carbide reinforcing particles. It is shown that an increase in the number of remelting iterations is not accompanied by any new phases appearing at the interfaces between particles and the matrix, which indicates the stability of the SiC reinforcing phase in aluminumsilicon melts under the considered temperature-time and concentration conditions. The effect of alloying elements on the interaction of boron carbide with aluminum melt

Thermodynamic assessment of the influence of alloying elements (Si, Cu, Mg, Ni, Mn, and Zn) on th... more Thermodynamic assessment of the influence of alloying elements (Si, Cu, Mg, Ni, Mn, and Zn) on the phase formation in cast aluminum matrix composites Al/B 4 C is carried out. It is shown that doping with silicon promotes the primary crystallization of Al 8 C 7 Si phase, the region of existence of which expands with an increase in the silicon content. In the range of 700-900 o C, the addition of silicon slightly changes the B 4 C fraction. The effect of copper is manifested in decrease in the solidus temperature and the solid-phase formation of Al 2 Cu. Doping with magnesium changes the phase composition, contributing to the additional formation of the AlB 2 phase and free carbon in the four-phase region AlB 2 + B 4 C + (Al) + C. The direct effect of zinc is recorded at its concentration of more than 0.7 wt.%, at which a solid solution (Zn) is formed in the solid state. The influence of manganese is fixed in solid-phase transformations; in the range of manganese concentrations up to 1 wt.%, crystallization ends in the Al 12 Mn + (Al) + B 4 C phase region. Nickel addition works similarly; crystallization of alloys containing up to 1 wt.% Ni ends in the phase region Al 3 Ni + (Al) + B 4 C.

There are such approaches to solving the problem of improving the tribotechnical characteristics of zinc alloys, as the search for new alloy compositions and optimization of existing ones. However, the capabilities of traditional alloys to achieve the desired properties of products that meet the growing demands almost exhausted at present time. One of the most effective ways to improve the tribotechnical properties of zinc alloys is realization of the principle of reinforced heterophase structure, which is the basis of creation of composite alloys.

Metal Matrix Composites: Selection of Components

Development of new alloys has been slowed by the empirical method of trials and errors that absor... more Development of new alloys has been slowed by the empirical method of trials and errors that absorbs more and more resources and leads to ever smaller results. Solution of this problem is possible through the use of the general principles of the alloys design theory. In this paper, we have proposed to consider cast metal matrix composites as foundry alloys and have developed a methodological approach to selection of alloying and reinforcing components considering the operational conditions for parts of friction units. Application of the proposed approach allows to make reasonable choice of composite alloys components within conditions of various schemes of reinforcing, including exogenously reinforced, endogenously reinforced and complex reinforced alloys.

Methods of exogenous reinforcing provide input of prepared reinforcing particles in matrix melt. Methods of endogenous reinforcing provide formation of endogenous reinforcing phases directly in the melt due to flowing of controlled exothermic reactions between components of initial composite mixes. Distinctive features of interaction of phases at flowing of processes of liquid-phase high-temperature synthesis provide opportunity for realization of new conceptual approaches to realization of scheme of the reinforcing, based on combination of endogenous and exogenous reinforcing of a matrix alloy with particles of various nature and sizes.

Nanocomposite thin films based on Al-Si alloy with the addition of boron carbide (B4C) particles ... more Nanocomposite thin films based on Al-Si alloy with the addition of boron carbide (B4C) particles are widely used in various fields of modern high-tech industry. For their synthesis, the method of laser nanomodification was used, which made it possible to obtain samples with a dendritic structure. The parameters of laser radiation were selected on the basis of preliminary modeling of the temperature field of the system. To describe the ensemble of nanodendrites on the surface, we used modeling of their structure in variable phase field and temperature for the initial stages, as well as the approximation of diffusion-limited aggregation and fractal Brownian motion for subsequent time intervals. The model showed satisfactory adequacy, estimated on the basis of the ratio of fractal dimensions of experimental and model structures. The proposed approach can be useful for predicting the structure of nanomodified aluminum alloys with various additions.

We report on the fabrication of fractal dendrites using laser-induced melting of aluminum alloys.... more We report on the fabrication of fractal dendrites using laser-induced melting of aluminum alloys. We target boron carbide (B4C), which is one of the most effective radiation-absorbing materials characterized by a low coefficient of thermal expansion. Due to the high fragility of B4C crystals, we were able to introduce its nanoparticles into a stabilization aluminum matrix of AA385.0. The high-intensity laser field action led to the formation of composite dendrite structures under the effect of local surface melting. Modelling the dendrite cluster growth confirms its fractal nature and sheds light on the pattern behavior of the resulting quasicrystal structure.

Wooden multi-span beams with steel reinforcement were studied experimentally on a stationary stan... more Wooden multi-span beams with steel reinforcement were studied experimentally on a stationary stand using an eight-point loading scheme that simulated a load uniformly distributed over the beam span. The studies were carried out on beams with a span of 4.8 m with a cross-sectional area of 40 mm × 80 mm, reinforced in the stretched zones of the cross-section with rods made of hot-rolled steel reinforcement of A400 class. The rational zones for the location of reinforcements in the tensioned and compressed zones of the beams were determined. The rational placements of reinforcement in the support and span zones was based on the numerical simulation of the volumetric stress state calculated using the finite element method. It was experimentally confirmed that the failure of wood composite beams had a plastic nature and occurred only along normal sections.
