Hulu has acquired the rights to the Liara Tamani novel “This Ain’t Our First Rodeo” with plans to develop it as a TV series, Variety has learned exclusively.

The YA novel was originally published in February by Greenwillow Books, an imprint of HarperCollins. The book is described as a contemporary Western love story set in the world of Houston’s rodeo. The official description states, “When life lassoes Josie and Shawn back together three years after their dreamy first date, their second chance at love is anything but easy.”

“This Ain’t Our First Rodeo” is Tamani’s fourth novel following her acclaimed works “Calling My Name,” “All the Things We Never Knew,” and “What She Missed.” She holds an MFA in writing from Vermont College of Fine Arts and a BA from Duke University.

News of the acquisition of “This Ain’t Our First Rodeo” is the latest YA project announced to be in development at Hulu in recent weeks. The streamer is also developing the series “Capsized” based on the upcoming book “Kill the Lax Bro,” while Hulu recently wrapped up the college drama “Tell Me Lies,” which was also based on the book of the same name. Hulu is also has the upcoming drama “Phony” starring Sam Nivola and Connie Britton and the Mindy Kaling series “Not Suitable for Work,” which follows a group of twentysomethings just out of college living in New York. Hulu also the drama pilot “Foster Dade” currently in contention from executive producer Greg Berlanti.
