Patristics is what I research and teach.
I am a native of Estonia and I have studied theology in Switzerland and the United States, obtaining a Ph.D. from the CUA (Washington DC) in Historical Theology. From 2008 to 2015, I was an Associate Professor of Patristic Theology at the Catholic University of America; and from 2015-2022, a Faculty Member of Georgetown University.
My primary research areas are patristic philosophy of language and hermeneutics, particularly those of Augustine. I have also developed a keen interest in ancient creeds, patristic Trinitarian theology, and Constantine.
I am a member of the North American Patristics Society as well as of the International Association of Patristic Studies/ L’Association Internationale d’Études Patristiques; a member of the Editorial Board of Usuteaduslik ajakiri (Theological Journal) (Tartu University, Estonia); and a Regular Contributor to Reviews in Religion and Theology. In 2005-11, I was a member of the Steering Committee for the Group “Augustine and Augustinianisms” at the American Academy of Religion. Currently I am a section editor of the multi-volume Brill Encyclopedia of Early Christianity.
