It is an important medieval industrial and cultural heritage, which has never been protected before and we don’t really know its real size and condition. Within the framework of a PHARE CBC project the University of Miskolc and Technical University Kosice made a study about the environmental impact of ore mining and worked out a plan for the educational and tourist utilization of the area.

Mineralógia zlata a chrakteristiky východzích hornín vo vysoko-sulfidickom type epitermálneho lož... more Mineralógia zlata a chrakteristiky východzích hornín vo vysoko-sulfidickom type epitermálneho ložiska Podpolom (Klokoč) V strednej časti stratovulkanického komplexu Javorie sa vyskytuje v podpolomskej oblasti epitermálne zrudnenie báden-pannónskeho veku. Zrudnenie je radené k tým hydrotermálnym centrám, ktoré vznikli vo vrchnej časti stockovitých dioritových telies, ktoré prenikli cez stratovulkanický komplex. Výsledkom viacnásobných dioritových intrúzií je vznik vyššie termálnych minerálnych sukcesií. Nabohatenie zlata sa viaže k oxidickým, limonitizovaným, kremeňom a brekciám s priemerným obsahom zlata 1-2 g.t-1. Primárne zlato sa objavuje vo forme 1-3 µm veľkých zlatiniek s vysokou čistotou, prirastené na povrch kremeňa, alebo pyritu. Možno to pozorovať v oxidovaných brekciách a kremencoch na okrajoch dutín goethitu. Nabohatenie zlata v pripovrchovej zóne je výsledkom supergénnych procesov.

The results of the base metal exploration at Rudabánya indicate a stratiform zinc-lead mineraliza... more The results of the base metal exploration at Rudabánya indicate a stratiform zinc-lead mineralization in the Lower Triassic siliciclastic rocks. This observation induced the assumption of a mineralized horizon in the Silicikum stratigraphic unit beyond the area of the Rudabánya complex, polymetallic deposit. The resampling of stored drill cores from the mapping boreholes of the Aggtelek Mts revealed sulphide enrichments and the presence of sphalerite along the Jósva Valley.

The Mecsek Mountains lies in southern Hungary, near the town of Pécs and close to the Serbian and... more The Mecsek Mountains lies in southern Hungary, near the town of Pécs and close to the Serbian and Croatian borders. Earlier, that was the largest hard coal complex in Hungary with three historic mine complexes. Their production was continuous from 1782 until 2003. Significant undeveloped resources (amounting to 980 million tons) are still registered in the area. The coal-bearing sequence is of Lower Jurassic age, 120 to 1000 m thick, with 36 coal seams in three seam-groups. The coal is highly volatile A bituminous rank with high ash, medium-high sulfur content and with low permeability. After several serious gas outbursts the pre-mining gas drainage has become a routine prevention measure since 1970. The specific methane gas yield during mine production (cu.m per ton of extracted coal) has shown a systematic increase with depth, from 15 to 80 cu.m/ton, averaging on 50 cu.m per ton. The Rudabánya Ore Bearing Complex (NE Hungary) is composed of siderite and base metal sulfide min... more The Rudabánya Ore Bearing Complex (NE Hungary) is composed of siderite and base metal sulfide mineralizations, hosted by Lower Triassic carbonate and siliciclastic succession of the Silicikum in the Western Carpathians. The deposit lies inside a Neogene sinistral strike-slip fault zone (Darnó Zone), bordered by master faults. The ore bodies are dissected blocks in a stack of horses structure. Iron, copper and lead ore resources were previously explored and mined in the area. During a recent exploration program additional zones of zinc and lead ores have been discovered representing two genetic types. The first one is stratiform, bound to reductive facies pelitic siliciclastic rocks. The second one is a hydrothermal mineralization, controlled by faults and siderite block boundaries. Both types have similar mineral paragenesis: sphalerite, galena, pyrite, barite. The two parageneses are distinguishable through their textural and geochemical fingerprints. Epitermálne vysokosulfidické (HS) zrudnenie viazané na vrchnoeocénske andezity oblasti Lahóca, je... more Epitermálne vysokosulfidické (HS) zrudnenie viazané na vrchnoeocénske andezity oblasti Lahóca, je súčasťou rudného komplexu pohoria Matra v Maďarsku, pri dedinke Recsk. Tento komplex je charakterizovaný skarnovým, Cu-porfýrovým a epitermálnym HS zrudnením. Cu-Au ložisko HS epitermálneho zrudnenia pri Lahóci ťažili viac ako 130 rokov, predovšetkým pre získanie medi. V HS ložisku má výskyt zlata vysokú jemnosť, tvorí zrnká veľkosti 1-30 mikrónov a nepravidelné plôšky. Zlato sa viaže najmä na pyrit. V prekremenelom matrixe sa zlato objavuje aj samostatne. V pyrite sa nevyskytuje v inklúziách, je vždy narastaný na povrch pyritových kryštálov.

There are two sets of slickenlines: the younger set indicates E-W extension mainly on W-NW dipping faults, while the older set indicates NE-SW extension mainly on S-dipping faults. Both sets are similar to the displacements found in Pannonian strata, and likely to have happened in near-surface conditions. The fault planes themselves, however, may be inherited from previous deformation phases.
