To achieve a capable and positive functioning socialization process, harmonious and healthy relationships must be ensured among and between each member of the family. Taking into consideration the overarching positive influence of valuable family relationship on healthy family lives, it is highly essential to investigate the predicting factors of good family relationships. Accordingly, this study tested whether family structures and gender role orientations would predict quality of family relationships. Ninety-eight participants who were selected using cluster sampling method from Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria, completed self-report instruments comprising of Index of Family Relations (IFR), Bem Sex-Role Inventory (BSRI) and the Personal Data Sheet (PDS). Hypotheses were tested using one-way ANOVA and multiple regressions. Findings suggest that participants from traditional marriage families reported better family relationships than those from single-parent, divorced and court/legal marriage families. Additionally, the expression of feminine traits by family members (regardless of sex) seems to account for a well knitted family relationship than the expression of the nearly feminine trait, androgynous trait and nearly masculine trait. Results were discussed in line with previous literature and it was recommended that traditional/customary marriage should not be jettisoned in the process of family formation but should be done in conjunction with court/legal marriage. Similarly, the expression of feminine traits by each family member regardless of their sex should be encouraged to forestall family conflicts and ensure good family relations.

Studies that consider individual anatomical aspects and place them in an intercultural context are rarely present. Methods: For this purpose, general data, body perception and judgment of body images from 2163 (48% female and 52% male) participants from Germany, Nigeria, the USA and Japan were evaluated as part of a survey. Results: There were clear differences in the personal body image of the participants’ own buttocks, the buttocks as a beauty ideal and the way in which dissatisfaction was dealt with in different countries. In addition to sexual well-being (importance score: 0.405 a.u.), the country of origin (0.353), media consumption (0.042) and one’s own weight (0.069) were also identified as influencing factors for satisfaction with one’s own buttocks. A clear evolution could be derived regarding a WHR (waist-to-hip ratio) of well below 0.7, which was consistently favored by the participants ...

It also acknowledges the possible influence of biological dimension of personality on morality. Employing Eysenck`s theories of social attitudes and emotionality as the theoretical basis the study went further to operationalise twenty four possible relationships between eysenckian dimensions of personality and Berkowitz`s seven characteristics of a complex moral person

Using Pearson’s correlation method, findings revealed that academic cheating behavior index had significant negative relationships with global score of n- Arch and six of its nine components, namely, achievement behavior, aspiration level, persistence task tension, time perspective and recognition behavior. Findings were discussed in light of the literature on relationship between n- Arch and cheating behavior. Implications of findings were discussed.Abstract: Attempt was made to investigate the relationship between achievement motivation (n-Ach) and academic...

Psychological Sense of Community in Four Neighbourhoods in Lagos Metropolis

Finding revealed that the four neighbourhoods significantly differed in the level of PSC expressed by residents (F(3/446) = 10.58 p< 0.01). The four neighbours also significantly differed on PWB (F (3/446) = 6.99, p>0.01) and PD (F3/446 = 7.9, p< 0.01). No significant relationship was, however, observed between PSC and PWB on the one hand (r (448) = 0.07, p>0.05) and PSC and PD on the other hand (r (448) = 0.012, p>0.05). Further analysis revealed significant difference among males and females on PSC (F(1/442) = 4.95, p< 0.01). Findings were discussed in light of previous findings in the literature

A cross-sectional survey design was adopted. Using a purposive sampling technique, 241 undergraduates (110 males and 131 females) were selected from a public university in Ondo State, Nigeria. Their ages ranged from 17 to 29 years with a Mean of 23.10 (SD = 5.10). Standardized questionnaires were used for data collection. Two hypotheses were tested using simple linear regression and independent t-test. The results showed that undergraduates who had higher level of computer self-efficacy were less likely to experience CBT anxiety (β = -.41; p < .01). Female undergraduates (M = 65.74) reported higher level of CBT anxiety than their male counterparts (M = 52.43). Therefore, to reduce computer-based test anxiety among undergraduates, we suggest that university managements should organize psychological training that would help enhance underg...

One hundred and forty health workers were selected through purposive sampling from the Ekiti State Teaching Hospital comprising of 16 pharmacists, 30 health assistants, 36 doctors and 58 nurses. Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) was administered to test the level of burnout. Four hypotheses were tested using Student's Independent t-test. Results revealed that sex has a significant effect on burnout; female health workers are more vulnerable to burnout than their male counterparts. Findings were discussed in the light of previous literature on gender and burnout. Based on the findings, it was recommended that management should employ more hands in order to reduce work overload and that they should organise seminars and social activities to help workers loosen up.

Handicap/Disability remains a debilitating condition for the disabled/ handicapped and the caregi... more Handicap/Disability remains a debilitating condition for the disabled/ handicapped and the caregivers, as they have to live and manage the condition in their life time (handicapped/disabled). The condition that affects motor ability, communicating ability, vision, thoughts, cognition, understanding, self-care, social interactions, education, usage of community amenities, self hygiene has both biological and environmental causes. Being a lifetime condition makes the management of this disability quite expensive, demanding the need for Government at various levels to take charge (management) of cases diagnosed as handicap/disability. This study x-rayed the etiology of major developmental crisis that mostly results in handicaps/disabilities, clinical psychological management and expected Government roles in the education, prevention, and management of the debilitating condition.

The sense of ''weness'' and ''theyness'' has largely precipitated most devastating wars and conflicts that have besieged the world, though incompatible goals or scarce resources are usually fronted as responsible. Such wars and conflicts have been called by different names like racism, xenophobia, nationalism or ethnocentrism. The term xenophobia has particularly gained wide recognition most especially in the wake of South-Africa’s crisis in the past. Nigeria has equally experienced such conflicts in the past and still does, however the magnitude of the violence in Nigeria has been played down due to the term used to describe such violence; sometimes it is called prejudice or discriminat...

It contends that the antidemocratic and corruptive behaviour of the Nigerian politician is hinged on a lack of sterling personality traits of these Nigerian politicians. The paper argues that although the behaviour impede on national growth and development; nonetheless, the behaviour are a result of entrenched poverty, political ignorance and political alienation of the civic public. The paper, thus, suggests political education, self-enfranchisement and friendly and virile political environment for the production, development and growth of Nigerian politicians with deep vision and sublime mission to turn around the political misfortunes of Nigeria. Whichever way politics is defined, it is recognized that there exist values which political practice may help man to configure and actualize. Lasswell (op cit) has discussed eight basic values all of which people will pursue. These are power, enlightenment, wealth, well-being (or health) skill, affection, rectitude (which involves both righteousness and justice) and deference. Deutsch (IbidL14) has captured the importance of these eight values to people when he opines that:

As such, most societies dedicate efforts to ensuring fairness and justice for all its members. The university environment constitutes a miniature society on its own and everyday broader realities of the larger society are equally applicable within the university. The attitude that students hold with regards to social inequality could be a function of their worldviews which act as guiding principles for social conduct. In this study, the worldviews of self-transcendence and just-world beliefs were examined in relation to support for affirmative action and social dominance orientation among students. The study employed a survey approach with data collected through questionnaires from a sample of 331 (62.8% female) undergraduate students in a public university. The authors hypothesized that self-transcendence and just-world beliefs would be positively associated with support for affirmative action and negatively with social d...

Participants are one hundred and fifty undergraduates in 200 and 300 levels of the Social and Management Science Faculty of a Nigerian University. Cheating Behaviour Questionnaire (Newstead et al, 1996) an instrument which contained 21 cheating behaviours and 21 reasons for engaging or not engaging in each of the behaviours was administered. Data analysis include frequency counts, ranks and chi-square, data revealed that the four cheating behaviours, which fell within collaborative cheating, were claimed to be the most frequent. They are: (1) premeditated collusion beteeen two or more students to communicate answers to each other during examinations (2)doing another students' coursework for them (3) allowing own coursework to be copied by another student and (4) agreement to mark each others work more generously than is merited. Analysis of data on reasons for engaging in these behaviours also revealed that the most frequently offered reason was " to help a friend", this suggests an altruistic reason. The present findings were compared with Newstead's et al (1996) findings with a British sample. Implication of findings of the present study visa -vs controlling the incidence of academic cheating borders on the need to reorient the ethical value of students from ethic of care to ethic of justice.
