The quantitative study was an experimental design with control group. Parametric tests led to the conclusion that there is statistically significant diference in favor of students who used a strategy based on simulation.

Even though staging would increae the efficiency of missions to other planets and celectial bodies, the massive launch vehicles needed for the completion of such missions make them practically infeasible. If propellants can be produced and stored on the Moon, Mars, etc., the need for these massive systems disappears, making space exploration more feasible (technically and economically) and safe because redundant and emergency systems can then be created at lower costs and shorther times. Background: Obviously, the availability of resources plays a mayor role as it does the performance of the current rocket engines. When studying the Moon and Mars there are two clear choices: oxygen/hydrogen, and oxygen/methane propulsion systems. We have chosen to use data from the Apollo missions to asses the availability of resources o the Moon and other data from NASA mis...

In this context, the challenges of advanced laser material processing applications present an interesting research area where CPS could be used for the real-time control and monitoring of such complex processes. In this article we present a method to monitor the correctness of the commanded position of galvanometer scanners using real time spectral analysis. We also provide a reference design based on FPGA that tests the proposed method. We also present a case study that has proven to be effective in the detection of high frequency components and target laser pattern degradation.

Educational robotics and videogames in the classroom

In Argentina, the “Conectar-Igualdad” and “Primaria digital" programs are allowing us to shorten the first digital divide - access to digital technologies. However, ICTs are used as a “passive instrument”, as children and teenagers use some applications and services with very little criticism towards them. This faces us with a second digital divide around the use of ICTs. This paper presents four initiatives developed at the LINTI (Laboratory of Research in New Information Technologies) of the Computer Science School of the National University of La Plata, in the research line “Education, Videogames and Free Software” whose goal is to take innovative proposals to the classroom promoting a critical appropriation of ICTs and a significative, active learning. In this sense the use and encouragement of free software and open source code has a fundamental role, allowing users to adapt the code to specific needs. These initiatives are oriented towards teaching programming in high school, teaching our history through a videogames and acquiring values in the public space in the primary school through a game.
