The network evolution towards 6G requires native network slicing techniques. Some literature approaches claim network slice realization, but they do not convincingly address the deployment across multiple Autonomous Systems. This work investigates the current 6G network slicing landscape, presents some gaps, and introduces the concept of the recursive network slicing between multiple Autonomous Systems, supported by the NASOR approach. This innovative concept supports implementing new network services required by the 6G vision. This work also sheds light on the 6G requirements for network slicing.

The future network architectures, mainly mobile networks, foresee intelligent mechanisms in their architectural frameworks to deliver application-aware network requirements. The potential of convolutional neural networks capabilities, widely exploited in several contexts, can be used in network traffic classification. Thus, it is necessary to develop methods based on the content of packets transforming it into a suitable input for CNN technologies. Hence, we implemented and evaluated the Packet Vision, a method capable of building images from packets raw-data, considering both header and payload. Our approach excels those found in state-of-the-art by delivering security and privacy by transforming the raw-data packet into images. Therefore, we built a dataset with four traffic classes evaluating the performance of three CNNs architectures: A...

Enhancing dynamism in management and network slice establishment through deep learning

Inspired by the definition and standardization of mobile networks, especially 5G that focused on business verticals, the term network slicing has received numerous state-of-the-art efforts to materialize an approach that meets dynamism, programmability, and flexibility requirements. Leveraged by SDN and NFV technologies, network slicing is inspiring by resource sharing similar to virtual machine management, allowing standard network hardware to accommodate a wide variety of logical networks with specific requirements and data and control planes. However, state-of-the-art approaches do not address resource slicing at the core of the network in detail and appropriately. Therefore, we built NASOR to provide network slicing over the Internet data plane spanning across multiple domains through a segment routing and a distributed-based approach. Our approach excels those found in state-of-the-art by delivering an open policy interface that allows third-party applications to manage network slices dynamically. In this sense, this paper exploits this interface through a mechanism of convolutional neural networks that classifies network traffic, instructing the path-setting agent to be aware of application which predominantly runs on the network improving dynamism in the network slices deployment. Experiments showcase the convolutional neural network applicability and suitability as an enabling technology to enhance and instruct NASOR to establish network slices over multiple domains.

A Flexible Network and Compute-Aware Orchestrator to Enhance QoS in NFV-Based Multimedia Services
2018 IEEE 32nd International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications (AINA), 2018

By evolving their networks, network operators are taking advantage of the convergence of voice and data. QoS metrics are usually based on parameters from the user side or network side. In this context, NFV and SDN can improve the communication experience and offers an abstraction layer to the deployment of flexible multimedia applications provided on the cloud. In this work, we propose an approach to mitigate globally manage network and computing resources for multimedia applications. To this end, we come up with a control plane entity capable of orchestrating compute and network resources for the multimedia application scenario, relying on SIP control messages. Our solution brings QoS enhancement to the user through resiliency, load balancing, packet inspection, scaling on demand and the separation of control and data planes.

The advent of Software-Defined Networking (SDN), Networking Function Virtualisation (NFV), and Machine Learning (ML) techniques brings new possibilities to address carrier environment challenges, especially QoS. The literature does not show a smart and flexible solution that brings scalability with holistic management of network, compute, and application resources taking into account different approaches to enhance QoS. This paper presents the Orchestrator that manages agnostic network, compute, and applications resources hosted in the cloud. Through ML algorithms, our solution enhances QoS towards network resilience, bandwidth allocation based on real-time traffic, and end-to-end QoS mechanism to the event-driven scenario. The Orchestrator operation spans across different domains providing applications, virtual functions, and cloud resources management elastically. Our experimental evaluation in a large-scale testbed shows Orchestrator's capability to provide a smart jitter decrease using AI techniques.

This article, describes an Open and Extensible 5G Network Function Virtualisation (NFV) based Reference ecosystem of experimental facilities, named 5GinFIRE, that integrates existing facilities with new vertical-specific ones but also lays down the foundations for instantiation fully softwarised architectures of vertical industries and experimenting with them. Additionally, we present 5GinFIRE as the forerunner experimental playground, together with three uses cases, wherein new components, architecture designs and APIs may be tried and proposed before they are ported to more industrially mainstream 5G networks that are expected to emerge in large scale.

The reduction criteria for this type of fracture are ill-defined. The purpose of this study was to validate 3 reduction criteria: displacement, alignment in the anteroposterior and in the lateral plane. We reviewed a cohort of 430 intertrochanteric fractures treated with a compression hip screw. The type of fracture, quality of reduction and technical complications were noted. We observed a relationship between accuracy of reduction and the incidence of complications, even among fractures of the same severity. A displacement bigger than 4mm and failure to accomplish correct alignment (a neck-shaft angle over 125deg; and less than 20° angulation on the lateral view) was considered a poor reduction and was associated with more complications.
